As the region continues to grow with local organizations expanding beyond borders and multinationals
beginning to enter and expand their businesses, the battle for talent is intensifying. Some industries are
already facing high attrition rates, while others are struggling to increase the proportion of discretionary
effort from their workforce. Innovation and global mega‐trends like demographic shifts, rapid
technological advancement, power of social media and environmental changes all point towards the
need for ‘agility’ in business models to accommodate the dynamism in the business ecosystem. This
agility can only be achieved if we have highly motivated and committed ‘agile’ workforce which is willing
to do more than just survival at work place – the discretionary effort.

Are managers at the Ministry of Labour and Social Development in the Kingdom of Bahrain practicing the Transformational Leadership style? Do managers with longer years of experience practice the four dimensions of transformational leadership more frequently than those with lesser years of experience? These are some of the questions that this study have sought answers to. Specifically, the research tried to determine the frequency at which transformational leadership dimensions such as idealized influence; inspirational motivation; intellectual stimulation; and individualized considerations are being practiced by managers in the said ministry, based on the perceptions of 96 rank and file employees, and 38 managers. It also determined if the frequency of practicing transformational leadership style is significantly related with the years of managerial experience. The study further investigated if managers' perceptions would significantly differ with that of the rank & file employees. The findings revealed that years' of managerial experience is not significantly related to the frequency of practice of transformational leadership dimensions. It was also found that idealized influence was the most frequently practiced transformational leadership dimension, while inspirational motivation was the least frequently practiced one in the Ministry of Labour and Social Development in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

A Problem exists in complex global markets to successfully coordinate and align the total competence of the value chain required to lean innovation across the global business. This research article overarching question was what is the lived experience of corporate leaders with respect to fostering innovation within companies they lead? The main findings were included, elements of visionary leadership and leaders use of questions operated concurrently in fostering innovation; leadership elements vary in their relative importance depending on the circumstance; leaders' purposeful involvement helps to drive innovation and a broader conceptualisation of leading contributes to innovation.

Universities play a central role in addressing key challenges of social, economic and environmental sustainability. For this role to be delivered effectively it is critical to identify not only what strategies are most productive but also how to ensure they are successfully led and implemented. This project seeks to apply the proven change leadership framework developed in the ALTC's 'Learning Leaders in Times of Change' project to the distinctive area of effective turnaround leadership for sustainability in higher education. The project is being undertaken in a collaboration between the University of Western Sydney, the Australian National University, the Sustainable Futures Academy and the University of Gloucestershire. It will produce a validated change leadership framework for building Education for Sustainability (EfS) successfully into the core activities of our universities, as well as a package of leadership development resources for use in individual recruitment, promotion, development and performance management activities. It will also document a range of successful practice models.

In this article, the question about the status of Facebook as a non-state actor is discussed. Research by Manuel Castells is reviewed in determining the recent trend and shift in global governance, government and the actors who impact and influence populations.

The study of culture and cultural values continues to be hotly debated among cross-cultural researchers worldwide. Starting with the seminal work of Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck, and Hofstede, and continuing with more recent efforts, researchers have continued to develop and empirically examine cultural value frameworks in an attempt to understand how cultural differences affect work-related behaviors and attitudes. The purpose of this commentary is to briefly describe the interesting – and counterintuitive – findings from the Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE) project, summarize the different interpretations of these findings offered by Maseland and van Hoorn, and by Brewer and Venaik, provide a critique of their arguments, and finally offer a list of possible alternative interpretations and explanations for the conflicting findings in the GLOBE study.

Over the past eight years I have been researching various aspects of leadership to gain a deeper understanding of how to lead mission movements within the globalized ecosystem in which we now live. This article presents a new theory on polycentric leadership to help missional leaders effectively traverse this modern landscape.

Executive summary: Exploring alternative feasible futures through engaging in a collaborative futures scenario development process has identified and prioritized a series of Key Actions for the ECI and its member organisations over the next 10 to 20 years. ABSTRACT
The role of training and education in the development of senior management and leaders is critical to the long-term development of organisations. This paper seeks to explore and discuss the methods used for training and developing senior and executive managers across Africa, China, Europe and the Middle East. The paper outlines the methods used to identify training needs, selection of trainers and trainees, curriculum development and implementation of delivery. The paper further considers the evaluation criteria used to gauge the success of training in meeting training needs and provides an insight into the challenges faced by course designers and deliverers. The paper uses evidence collected over a five-year period between 2005-2009 on groups of senior managers and executives receiving training in the UK, sponsored by both British and other national governments. The paper has found little difference in the manner in which curriculum has been developed and how trainees are selected. However, the training needs and the identification of trainers have shown differences in approach and selection. Whilst there is evidence to suggest that training needs have been met, this is only in the short term and long-term needs are yet to be addressed. Furthermore, in support of long-term objectives, the ability to recognise and accommodate religion and culture remain areas necessitating further understanding.

Peranan yang dimainkan oleh latihan dan pendidikan dalam perkembangan pengurusan kanan dan pemimpin adalah kritikal bagi perkembangan jangka panjang organisasi. Kertas kajian ini bertujuan meneliti dan membincangkan kaedah yang digunakan untuk melatih dan membentuk para pengurus eksekutif dan kanan di Afrika, China, Eropah dan Timur Tengah. Kertas ini menggariskan kaedah yang digunakan bagi mengenal pasti keperluan latihan, pemilihan pelatih dan jurulatih, perkembangan kurikulum dan pelaksanaan penyampaian. Kertas ini juga meneliti kriteria penilaian yang digunakan bagi menilai kejayaan sesuatu latihan dalam memenuhi keperluan latihan dan seterusnya memberikan tanggapan tentang cabaran yang bakal dihadapi oleh pereka kursus dan para penyampai. Kertas ini menggunakan bukti yang dikumpul bagi tempoh lima tahun antara 2005-2009 bagi kumpulan-kumpulan pengurus kanan dan eksekutif yang menerima latihan di UK, yang ditaja oleh kedua-dua kerajaan British dan kerajaan-kerajaan lain. Kertas ini mendapati terdapatnya perbezaan yang kecil antara cara kurikulum dibentuk dan cara pelatih dipilih. Walau bagaimanapun, daripada segi keperluan latihan dan pengenalpastian jurulatih, terdapat perbezaan daripada sudut kaedah dan pemilihan. Most risk management activity in the healthcare sector is retrospective, based on learning from experience. This is feasible where the risks are routine, but emergency operations plans (EOP) guide the response to events that are both high risk and rare. Under these circumstances, it is important to get the response right the first time, but learning from experience is usually not an option. This case study presents the rationale for taking a proactive approach to improving healthcare organizations' EOP. It demonstrates how the Prospective Hazard Analysis (PHA) Toolkit can drive organizational learning and argues that this toolkit may lead to more efficient improvement than drills and exercises.

El libro estudia el fenómeno del liderazgo desde los perfiles del carisma, los problemas del poder y los retos de la realidad que, muchas veces, es resistente al cambio. Hoy día se advierte la carencia de líderes legitimados democráticamente, los cuales, al mismo tiempo, estén cultural y éticamente a la altura de los grandes desafíos del presente.

Las épocas de grandes dilemas y tribulaciones exigen la presencia de auténticos estadistas, imaginativos, intrépidos, impulsores del progreso histórico, dirigentes con talento intelectual y convicciones éticas, capaces de adelantarse a su tiempo y  trascender sus circunstancias. Ellos tienen una visión adecuada del conjunto de la nación donde se desenvuelven, pues paralelamente a su carrera política se han consagrado al estudio y análisis de la sociedad. Poseen también voluntad y disciplina, ennoblecidas por los propósitos que se han trazado, objetivos que superan de lejos los apetitos individuales y los egoísmos grupales. Estos últimos no pueden obviamente ser suprimidos, pero sí mitigados y canalizados en pro de un fin superior. Una combinación de coraje, perseverancia y responsabilidad distingue a los líderes genuinos, quienes saben que la verdadera gloria no reside en la acumulación de caudales robados al Estado, sino en el servicio a la comunidad, en la defensa de la justicia y en la construcción de un futuro mejor.

This phenomenological study explored the perspectives and experiences of 12 counseling leaders grounding their leadership within professional coun- selor identity. The results of this study yielded five main themes (i.e., person as leader, culture, privilege and responsibility, counseling leadership, advo- cacy and impact), each with three subthemes. Implications for counseling leadership, leadership training, multicultural leadership, and research are discussed.

According to the common idea, " the economic power determines the political power." By this general principle, when we look at the powerful states, we see that these states (countries) have, at the same time, the powerful political effect on the other actors. In this paper, some trade and economic data of Turkey are shown in order to localize its place in the World rankings. By this purpose, this paper argues the fact that Turkey which, being one of the countries belonging G-20, has tried since 1991 to play a big role in its bilateral relations in Caucasia, Central Asia and Middle East (CCAME). However, when the data of international business of Turkey and those of each one of the countries of Central Asia treated in the contents of research are studied, it is seen very clearly that the influence of Turkey in Central Asia is not very dominant or does not create a dominating effect over the economic plan in spite of the existence of the diplomatic effects, visa facilities and the visits based upon the cultural level and mutually testified. Without any doubt, although nobody can deny the existence and the probability of the gradual growth of Turkey's relations in CCAME's countries, Turkey, whose face is turned mainly towards the occident and the large majority of trade made within the European countries, tries to be an influential actor in the determined areas. Naturally, in spite of the celebration of Nawruz with the Turkic World, acting as a Muslim country in Middle East, and accepting the norms of European Union as a European democratic and laicized country in Eu-rope, Turkey presents several identities and makes it a multi-colored actor who can be used in favor of Turkey's interests.

Using a life stories approach to examine the career path of volleyball legend Lang Ping, this article analyzes how the " narrative self " is constructed in her growth into a transnational sports leader. Situated in China's sports media culture, the article examines major components of authentic leadership development in her coaching career, including leader self-awareness/self-regulation, leadership practice/follower development, and sustained performance. While the media narratives around her success ranged from patriotism and professionalism to Olympic spirit over the decades, she has maintained a reflective perspective in her identity articulation and engaged in transformative leadership practice. The paper also discusses the implications of Lang Ping's success for empowering women in the globalization of China's sports system.

MUN simulations can be considered a community of practice since they possess Wenger's (1998) three criteria-mutual engagement, a negotiated joint enterprise, and a shared repertoire. House (2003) argues that ELF too can be considered a community of practice since "its diffuse alliances and communities of imagination and alignment fits ELF interactions well because ELF participants have heterogeneous backgrounds and diverse social and linguistic expectations" (p. 573). Speaking English as an L1 offers no guarantee of an ability to interact successfully with a wide variety of interlocutors; there are many varieties of English, many of which are mutually incomprehensible (Ur 2010) and similarly, native speakers of these many varieties of English are not guaranteed to be successful interlocutors with users of ELF (Litzenberg 2013). Indeed, English native speakers are in especially acute need of training to adjust to a lingua franca world (Carey 2013). This short paper will report on observations of ELF-speaking MUN delegates from Japan and Germany to get a sense of some of the shortcomings that native speakers display when communicating with ELF speakers in the context of MUN simulations and will make recommendations for their training. The speaker must choose a comprehensible [verständlich] expression so that speaker and hearer can understand one another. (J. Habermas (1979) cited in: W. Ulrich (1983), Critical heuristics of social planning, p. 123).

The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations represent a universal response to current global challenges that include climate change, poverty, political instability and the massive displacement of people worldwide. The central role of education in achieving sustainable development has been internationally acknowledged and successfully promoted: Global enrolment rates are now 90 percent for primary education and over 70 percent for secondary education. Building on these achievements, this paper focuses the role of tertiary education in contributing to sustainable development. This study reviewed recent theoretical and empirical research relating to the field. Conclusions from theoretical studies confirm that building on human capital is crucial for achieving the sustainable development goals. The majority of empirical studies also confirm a positive correlation between tertiary education and sustainable development. This study highlighted, however, that the full benefits of tertiary education to society may have been underestimated and that there are significant research gaps in the field. Furthermore, current challenges including funding, equity and market relevancy in tertiary education need to be addressed. Given the pressing global issues and the mounting evidence of positive impacts, this paper calls for more research and attention to be devoted to tertiary education in the sustainable development debate.

Hennepin County’s Human Services and Public Health Department strategic direction has been a commitment focused on developing client-centered solutions, addressing disparities, strengthening partnerships and collaborations, driving business innovation, and responding to emerging issues (HCHSD). Minneapolis’ Somali immigrant population is facing some of the most catastrophic health care concerns as it pertains to cancer and the prevention and early detection. I am submitting to Hennepin County a proposal for feasibility study on Somali women’s health care.

Sharply rising global use of mobile information communications technology (ICT) and a relative lack of informed pedagogic e-leadership of ICT in education coupled with fierce international competition for achievement and a trend towards increasing accountability (to meet targets via audit and high levels of youth unemployment) means that schools now face significant challenges in responding to the needs of future generations of 21st century learner. This chapter briefly outlines four key trends relating to the above issues, particularly in the context of pedagogic applications of technology development and then considers these challenges in a global context.
