This year, we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of our Open Access (OA) Books Program! Our OA books are more likely than non-OA books to be mentioned in the news, and have on average more than twice as many citations in research and policy documents. This demonstrates that choosing OA is the perfect way for researchers to maximize the reach and impact of their work. We caught up with 12 Taylor & Francis colleagues and asked them to recommend their must-read OA book from our collection. 4.2 billion people – more than half the world – will head to the polls in 2024, according to the U.S. National Democratic Institute (NDI). Many experts are worried about how false news reports could influence election outcomes. How do we tell fact from fiction? Assess the credibility of sources? Make sure we get all sides of a story? And escape our echo chambers? In our new article, researchers explain why media literacy is important, and provide recommendations on what policymakers, academics, and funders can do to promote media literacy. Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), one of Latin America’s leading institutions, has announced a new partnership with Taylor & Francis to increase the global reach of its research through open access (OA) publishing. The agreement’s generous open access article allocation has been designed to enable all corresponding Unicamp authors to choose OA. The three-year ‘read & publish’ deal ensures faculty and students have continued access to the latest cutting-edge research in Taylor & Francis’ range of international journals. Jeff Voci, Senior Vice President & Commercial Lead – Americas at Taylor & Francis, commented: “Publishing open access in international journals can make a big difference to an article’s reach. However, researchers in Brazil don’t always have the funding for this to be an option. That’s why we’re delighted to partner with Unicamp, an institution that’s making investment in open research a priority.” Read more: http://spr.ly/6045dyW8f #OpenAccess Universidade Estadual de Campinas

Stories are powerful. When we read data, only the language parts of our brains work to decode the meaning. But when we read stories, every part of the brain we’d use if we experienced the story becomes activated as well. We invite you to join us for a webinar next Wednesday, May 15 at 10 am US ET, called: ”Storytelling Strategies for Research Communication Impact.” Your host will be Dr. Kate McDowell, Associate Professor at the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, who advises regional, national, and international nonprofits, including work with WHO on storytelling responses to online health misinformation. McDowell leads the nationally-funded Data Storytelling Toolkit for Librarians, currently in development, to equip public libraries with the narrative tools they need to thrive in the data-driven era.
