We appreciated the many thoughtful discussions at #BrusselsBlockchainWeek on the future of #tokenization and #regulation in our industry. Thanks to everyone involved in the panel on Wednesday on the implementation of #digitalassetregulation. Why starting getting ready for #MiCA now? MiCA entered into force the 29th of June giving between 12 and 18 months for token issuers and crypto services to get ready for it. 💬Janet H. head of policy for Europe at Chainalysis, emphasizes the importance of early preparation, stating, "Crypto firms should begin preparing for the implementation as soon as possible." ⏳In a best-case scenario, it may take approximately 4 to 5 months for applicants to secure a MiCA license from their local competent authority. It might be quicker if you apply to a national jurisdication who already have in place a transitional regime. ⏱During the MiCA license application process, applicants should anticipate a timeframe of 25 working days for addressing any missing information from the authorities, followed by an estimated duration of 60 working days for the competent authority to grant or refuse the request. ✅ Plus, it is a great green flag not only to customers but also to potential investors if you are trying to raise money. CoinDesk - #Tether, what’s behind the curtain? The world’s largest #stablecoin issuer by market capitalisation has revealed the composition of their reserve assets after being subject to a Freedom of Information Law request. Data shows a large composition of reserves are denominated in #commercialpaper held with traditional financial institutions, such as investment management firms. Nothing manifestly concerning transpired from these findings. Although a ‘suspicious’ flurry of trading activity, multiple USD sell orders on the same day, indicates potential #marketabuse. What this reveals about an issuer’s #creditworthiness remains unknown, but the right to question it is a valuable tool. To compare it to the UK, this equates to submitting a #FOIR against an entity with a domestic presence, subject to the qualifying conditions being satisfied. Justification for requests, however, may require stronger reasons than speculative enquiries. All in all, #FOIR is a good tool for ongoing #KYC.
