We are thrilled to share our new visual identity that emphasizes the interconnectedness of our approach to achieving a just and equitable world where people and nature flourish! Our new logomark draws inspirations from the concept of a ‘weave,’ a metaphor for interconnected ideas and collaborative efforts, and weaves together the shapes and hues found in our natural surroundings— sagebrush green evokes the abundant earth, marigold reflects the coastal valley hills, and poppy orange pays homage to the California sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. “Our new aesthetic remains true to the 60-year legacy of the Foundation and illustrates our belief in the power and potential of people coming together to weave creative solutions to complex problems.” - Julie Packard, Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees Learn more about our process and inspiration. ⬇️

Island Conservation scientists just returned from Pajaro Uno Island, Chile and we are thrilled to report that, for the first time in DECADES, Peruvian Diving-petrels are once again breeding on island. This is the direct result of Island Conservation’s work holistically restoring the island by removing invasive predators and using seabird recordings to attract the birds back – something that took less than three years to implement. By creating safe habitats for these threatened seabirds, we are promoting the recovery of the entire island-ocean ecosystem. Check out this new research from MBARI and discover answers to critical questions about the stability of the seafloor to guide the development of offshore wind energy in California. ⬇
New MBARI research on a field of pockmarks—large, circular depressions on the seafloor—offshore of the Central California coast has revealed that powerful sediment gravity flows, not methane gas eruptions, maintain these prehistoric formations. Past research in other parts of the world has suggested that similar large seafloor depressions were formed and maintained by methane gas bubbling up through the sediments. With wind farms slated for construction offshore of Central California, resource managers were concerned about how the presence of methane gas might impact the stability of the seafloor in this region. MBARI quickly moved to conduct this research in partnership with BOEM and USGS. We leveraged our advanced technology to answer critical questions about the stability of the seafloor to guide the development of offshore wind energy in California. Then ➡️ now In 2002, the Foundation participated in a landmark public-private partnership with the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and others to purchase 16,500 acres of salt ponds along the San Francisco Bay shore and Napa River to turn them into wetlands and tidal marshes. Today, this critical restoration work continues. In December of 2023 our grantees at Save The Bay partnered with The South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to create a new tidal marsh in the San Francisco Bay. #Packard60
