The Brazilian Internet Steering Committee - CGI.br maintains working groups and coordinates several projects in areas which are essential to the operation and development of the Internet in the country. In order to perform its activities, the CGI.br created a non-profit civil organization, the "Brazilian Network Information Center" - NIC.br.

• Registro.br
  Since 1995, Registro.br has been performing some of the tasks assigned to the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, such as domain name registration activities and the administration and publication of the DNS for the <.br> domain.
• CERT.br
  Internet security is one of the main concerns of the CGI.br, which has maintained, since 1997, the Brazilian Computer Emergency Response Team.
• CETIC.br
  The Center of Studies on Information and Communication Technologies is responsible for the collection and dissemination of strategic indicators and information on services and the development of the Internet in Brazil.
• CEPTRO.br
  The Center of Studies and Research on Network Technologies and Operations is responsible for the implementation of projects related to Network Technologies and Internet Operations approved by the CGI.br.
• W3C.br
  Pursuant to the deliberation by the CGI.br and the requirements set forth by the W3C - World Wide Web Consortium, NIC.br set up a W3C office in Brazil – which is the first in South America. The W3C is an international consortium whose aim is to bring the Internet to its full potential through the establishment of standards and guidelines which will ultimately ensure its constant development.
