    In 1957, post-war England needed an affordable car due to soaring fuel prices from the Suez Crisis. Designer Alec Issigonis was brought in to design the Mini, and the challenge was: build a small fuel-efficient car that’s capable of transporting four adults. In his design, Issigonis pushed the Mini’s four wheels to the corners and turned the engine to the side, which meant house fly cornering and more cabin space.
