Some 400 people in Sweden have applied to fight against Russia in the ranks of Ukraine as the war keeps raging between Kyiv and Moscow, state media reported on Wednesday.

The Swedes have formed a group appealing to those willing to fight for Ukraine against Russia, according TT News Agency.

The group’s coordinator Philip Brannval said an international brigade was established in Ukraine and a total of 400 Swedes have enlisted to join it.

The first group, he said, would depart for Ukraine on Thursday and it would first fly to Poland and then travel to Ukraine via land. Brannval opted not to disclose any further detail due to security concerns.

Since Russia's war on Ukraine began last week, it has been met by outrage from the international community, with the EU, UK, US, Canada, and Japan implementing a range of economic sanctions on Moscow.

Over 2,000 civilians have been killed in Ukraine in seven days since the start of the war, the Ukrainian authorities said.

More than 874,000 people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, according to the latest UN Refugee Agency data.
