LPT If you answer the phone and the police tell you a loved one has died, don't be the messenger

20 years ago I was home from college. Most of the fam went to brunch. I wasn't feeling it so I stayed back. I answered the phone at home and it was the Sherrif.

My uncle was dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound.

I was shaking taking the info down and thinking I would be a softer messenger, I told the family. It was a day burned in my memory. We all took it hard, but I was the messenger.

Looking back, the police are trained to deliver this news and resources. I feel like even though I knew, I could have left and taken a walk and let the professionals deliver the news.

I think it changed my relationship with those family members and not positively.

I struggle with food due to anxiety, ADHD, and medications that suppress appetite. Sometimes I realize it’s been way too long since I’ve eaten, but everything sounds repulsive.

Broth and bouillon are easy ways to “warm up” your stomach so it can get used to ingesting things again, and it can help replenish the electrolytes you’ve lost in the days of no to minimal food.

Had a doctor suggest this to me one time and I’ve always found that it helps me.

Today I learned Gatorade created a sport institute that successfully influenced the sport industry into thinking that we must drink (their) beverages otherwise we will cramp.

TIL that "Dinner" (the big meal) used to be around midday so artificial light wasn't needed, and then "Supper" was an evening snack. Dinner moved later in the day during the 18th century, until it was so late a new meal was needed to bridge the gap: "Lunch."

TIL early American colonists once "stood staring in disbelief at the quantities of fish." One man wrote "there was as great a supply of herring as there is water. In a word, it is unbelievable, indeed, indescribable, as also incomprehensible, what quantity is found there. One must behold oneself."
