Heather Rae El Moussa Says Having a Baby Made Her Marriage to Tarek ‘Even Harder’ in Candid New Interview

Marriage is a walk in the park — if that park was filled with barbed wire, quicksand, wild animals, and confusing twists and turns. Basically, navigating a relationship with your spouse isn’t always easy. Especially if you are parents! Heather Rae El Moussa revealed that having a baby with her husband Tarek El Moussa made things “even harder” in a new interview that many moms can relate to.

The Selling Sunset star recently told TODAY that having baby Tristan, now 15 months, was the “most amazing thing I’ve ever done” and now her marriage is “stronger than ever.” However, it wasn’t such smooth sailing at first.

“We definitely had to go through some adjustments after Tristan was born,” Heather Rae said about her and Tarek. “Suddenly all of my time was going into our baby, but you have to remember to still be a wife.” She went on, “I think marriage is hard in general, right? And then you add kids into it and that makes it even harder.”

There’s nothing wrong with spending all of your time focused on your baby — you pretty much have to when babies are that young and needy! — but that doesn’t mean it can’t put a strain on your marriage. The Flipping El Moussas stars made sure to prioritize their relationship to help.  “After the first year though, I feel like everything really fell into place for our family. Tarek and I are thriving,” she continued. “We make date nights a priority and take little trips here and there so we feel like our old selves and not just Mom and Dad all the time.”

Even if you can’t go on vacations or go out all the time, you can still give your relationship a boost by making sure your spouse gets some much-needed time away from the kids and finding time to connect. Even if it’s just watching the latest season of Bridgerton while your kids are asleep.

Even though their relationship is doing fine now, Heather Rae shared that she is unsure if they want to bring another baby into their blended family (Tarek is also dad to Taylor, 13, and Brayden, 9, with ex Christina Hall). “Can we add on one more and still be able to have a successful marriage and a successful life? We just need to think on it,” Heather Rae added. “I know we would never regret (it), and my heart is still held open to wanting one.”

On Mother’s Day, The Flip Off star shared several family photos and wrote a heartfelt message about motherhood. “Becoming a mother is truly the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she said. “Each moment filled with love, growth, and endless special moments. Today, I celebrate not only my own journey as a mama but also the incredible women who have shaped my path. My own mother, my amazing mother-in-law, and the beautiful bond with my step kids. Happy Mother’s Day to all the strong, nurturing, selfless and inspiring women out there! 💕”
