I've read lots of books on health and diet. The Switch by James W. Clement has been the most helpful for me. I really appreciate the information that he shares. I think I've been following quite closely his outline, even before reading the book; I was doing intermittent fasting, and it works for me. I tried carnivore, and it was not quite what I needed. I don't have autoimmune issues like some do. I like his list of "Unlimited Foods", I have to watch the oxalates, so the smaller portions list works for me. I do think macadamia nuts are way overpriced, and other nuts will work for me; I like his list of oils. I have been eating more fish, mostly wild salmon. I really feel good eating salmon and not so much beef. Wild caught salmon is expensive, but by cutting out a lot of other foods and supplements I was taking, I can do it. I appreciate his list of supplements. When I was eating KETO, my total cholesterol shot up to over 300. I have to watch my blood pressure, and I think it's important for me to keep my cholesterol down somewhat. I have always exercised a lot, and I like that he encourages exercise. I'm 80 years old, and I want to have the best health I can have as long as I can. I really want to thank James Clement for writing this book and sharing what he has learned about health and diet. All of his information is so appreciated. Thank you!

A very informative and easy read. I highly recommend this book.

Some great insights into slowing aging and leading a healthy life. Midway into my 60s, I am definitely feeling the passage of time and an aging body.

I definitely think radical life extension for those who want it is not too far away in the future. I think Clement's understanding about our body and maximizing health are second to none.

Seeing the names of the folks who have reviewed and endorsed this book has also impressed the heck out of me: George Church, David Sinclair, David Perlmutter, Dave Asprey, Durk Pearson, Steve Horvath, and many others.

I definitely plan on sending copies to friends and family members.

Much of what is in this book can be found through a variety of sources, but this saves time by avoiding that research. It also is a book I refer back to for some things. The reason for the 4 stars is in some cases, the author yammers on and on, while I am looking for concrete information that I can apply, with concise background. The book could have been somewhat shorter and still be worth the price.

I have adopted some of his recommendations and noticed certain improvements, but the proof will be when I get tested, which haven't done yet due to this stupid virus shutdown.

That's not how science works. The thousands of science papers he ingested don't support his conclusions. It's interesting to read about the mechanisms, but animal studies do NOT directly translate to human. The only way to know if a particular diet will work is to do the study in humans. Until then, it's really more accurate to say that we just don't know, and that's ok. Also, science works by the entire scientific community gradually coming to consensus on each issue. I guarantee that the current consensus is not to go on a ketogenic diet. If it was, then my doctor would be advising me to do so. If there were proven health benefits, then all doctors would clearly be recommending ketogenic diets. I know James means well, but he's a true outlier and you should firmly reject his advice. For example, if you follow his advice, you will most likely lose muscle mass and fall into disability sooner from sarcopenia.

I recently purchased a book entitled “The Switch” by a James Clement, a self-made brilliant microbiologist. I rate this book 5 stars. As some of us know, we have 30-40 trillion cells in our body. What was fascinating to me was the author tells that in each of our cells we have an ancient mechanism when turned on we experience general growth, stronger muscles, strength, energy, etc. When turned off we can revive our cells. The author tells how we can slow aging, possibly reversing it, by going back and forth between activating autophagy and mTOR, two very important cell processes. You can actually maintain your growth and switch to trashing out our bad cells, i.e. cancer, Alzheimers, diabetes, etc. We can live a much more healthy lifestyle, but most important we can extend our life span and possibly reverse our aging. The author also lays out a very practical method in turning the switch on or off. It’s something all of us can do ourselves.

The more I read it the more I like it.
Obviously the main point of the book is the switch - mTOR and authopagy.
The book is big on intermittent fasting and keto diet.
Chapter 9 is extremely useful: it has practical recommendations about what to eat or not to eat to implement the ideas explained earlier.
I think it is the most impactful book I read in the last couple of years. It is going to make a difference in my life, as I am going to incorporate many of its ideas.
