Can I just say…

How thankful I am to this sub? The bridgerton sub has so much hate towards Polin. This is the one safe place Polin fans have to completely immerse themselves in the fandom. I can’t take the constant criticism and hate over there. So this is just my thanks to all of you for keeping this such a positive environment for all of us. I am about to block the original group because I just can’t take it anymore. Much hugs and love to you all. ❤️ Thank you for your kindness and positive vibes ❤️

false

I like Bridgerton, especially season 1 and 2 but this season however is the most unserious lmao. When I was watching that scene with the hot air balloon I couldn’t take it seriously because I was cackling. Everyone else runs away and Penelope just stands there waiting for the hot air balloon to knock her over with the dramatic music in the back lol. Colin then saves her while she’s spooning on the floor with lord Deblin. I was like…did the show want this to be like a life or death moment? It just reminds me of a telenovela 😭😂 and then afterwards that guy just hops in the balloon and floats off, like what just happened 😭

A Bittersweet Farewell

As I sit on my couch, browsing the posts in this sub, a thought suddenly hits me: it all ends in 9 days. We'll witness Colin and Penelope get their happily ever after, with all the ups and downs in between, but their season and story will conclude. I know they'll appear in Season 4, but the focus will shift away from them—and I'm okay with that! I'm excited to see the rest of the books come to life, but I've felt so close and connected to this couple from the start that it makes me a feel sad it's almost over. It's giving me the same feels as watching the final Harry Potter movie 😂 If you feel the same way, please let me know I'm not alone!

Cressida is surprisingly magnanimous

Cressida is surprisingly magnanimous
false

I came into S3 expecting to utterly detest Cressida, and while I still can’t say I love her, I have been rather taken aback by how gracious and magnanimous she has been throughout part 1 (mean girl antics and cutting El off in the middle of her talking about feminism aside). Examples:

  1. When Eloise quite bluntly calls her out for being cruel in ruining Pen’s dress, Cressida does not get defensive and instead acknowledges that Eloise is correct and that she has not been very kind, and vows to be less mean to Penelope moving forward

  2. Eloise clearly is longingly staring towards Pen at many social gatherings and balls, and Cressida does not express annoyance or jealousy at her new/only friend not paying attention to their conversation and plainly wishing she was reconciled with Pen. She instead comforts and tries to distract Eloise without it coming across as petty or selfish.

  3. Cressida refuses to gossip about Pen and Colin when asked directly if she’s heard any new rumors, yet Eloise blames her for the news spreading. Cressida is upset and leaves, but quickly forgives Eloise for this false accusation and they resume their friendship with no apparent grudges or holding onto resentment for being blamed without cause.

  4. Lord Cowper bans Cressida from seeing Eloise, but Cressida continues to go out of her way to find El and does not condescend to her despite her family’s disdain for Eloise.

I feel like I, personally, would feel annoyed/offended/hurt if my new best friend was very openly missing her old best friend to the point of not paying attention to me when we are hanging out and then yelling at me about how I did something to hurt said ex-BFF when I didn’t do it at all.

I’m interested to see how Cressida’s character and story evolve in part 2, especially in the face of LW drama.

I love how Colin is a mama’s boy

It’s interesting because in S1 and S2 the male leads were very influenced by their fathers and their fathers played a huge role in their stories.

Whereas in this season (and in previous seasons) we see Colin’s bond with his mom more.

It hits even harder because we know that in the books Colin and Daphne are so close 🥺❤️

Did anyone else feel that they didn't gave Lady Danbury much to do this season?

Did anyone else feel that they didn't gave Lady Danbury much to do this season?

I love Lady Danbury. Loved how big of a role she played in past 2 seasons love stories. She played a matchmaker and a mother to Simon. Didn't much help Kate Anthont but was first to empathize with the struggles of Kate and see how both of them are falling for each other. I loved her and Kate relationship and was/still hoping to see more of them in s3. She truly was a mother to both Simon and Kate. And that's why I was hoping she would be a mother to Penelope as well considering Pen's own mother isn't too much for the feelings. I have not read the book but I have heard that Lady Danbury did help Pen in the books, I don't know why can't we use that in the show as well. Lady D has nothing to do with the main love story this season and that's making me feel something missing. She has like one scene showing matchmaking efforts for Francesca. All other scenes are just being Queen friend or with her brother. Nothing grand for her to do. Yeah she was seen supporting Alice but honestly hate me as much you want but I don't care about Mondrichs storyline. I hope in part 2 we see Lady D play more important role as she definitely is one of the best character in the show

I keep coming back to this very small moment from 302
https://preview.redd.it/37m1kchcun4d1.jpg

And not because of Rae's side eye, though it's brilliant, but because something about this brief exchange speaks volumes to me about how thoroughly their armor is up and how both let their masks fall for a split second.

Penelope looks to Rae who gives a sort of disapproving look that I think puts a chink in Penelope's armor and you see how sad she looks that even Rae knows this is dangerous territory for her to be treading. Rae has already seen Penelope sat in her garden and no doubt overheard Colin's apology to her, she knows what Penelope's objective is this season and she probably knows how much it's costing Penelope to pretend to be fine with just being Colin's friend.

There's something about the way that Penelope puts up a facade of trying to be coy and mischievous with her "before we are noticed" but there's this kind of melancholy underbelly to it. Penelope is the one who walked up to Colin at the market and had a moment to notice him standing at the stall and no doubt doing his whole devil may care flirty head nods to the women who passed him by. She can observe him playing the charming rake, knowing it's not who he is but having to live with accepting it's who he's trying to be this season and that charming rake is trying to be her friend who is trying to help her marry someone else who is not him. Her trying to tease him about being noticed is almost a way to say I'm saving you from yourself by being seen with me. She's trying to make his choice to move in the world in this new persona an easier one for him, she won't embarrass him or cause him to have to explain why he keeps hanging out with the random pitiful loser. She won't put him or herself in a position where he has to put on his charm and make her feel small so he can puff his chest out to people more worthy of spending time with. She won't stand in his way of flirting with all the women of the ton. She will make it easier for him by trying to remain as out of sight as possible and to let him keep trying this new persona on if this is who he thinks he needs to be.

And you can see from Colin's reaction (once again bless Luke Newton and his microexpressions and subtlety) that he is both confused and a little hurt by the implication that he shouldn't be noticed with her. He doesn't understand why she would try to avoid being seen with him. He apologized didn't he? Told her she doesn't embarrass him and maybe that wasn't enough to get through to her, does she really still believe he doesn't want to be seen with her? They've been in broad daylight accompanied by a maid and standing feet apart for most of this moment, nothing untoward or strange about them interacting but once again he sees Penelope reverting back to hiding herself and in a way he's not accustomed to. She's putting on her charm rather than being her natural charming self (she does this later in the drawing room scene too when she quips about flirting with the imaginary cellist and you can see he's not a big fan of that moment either, because it's not really her) and maintaining physical and emotional distance from him. She has a wound from his public declaration that's healed in the form of a scar and it's like he can see it so plainly in that moment.

But Rae saunters past and gives him her infamous side eye and he immediately goes into a mental exercise that allows the moment to not feel as fraught as it does. It's because of Rae, cheeky thing that she is, Penelope is just being a good girl and following Rae's cues, she doesn't really mean they shouldn't be seen together. All is right in the world, let me put my mask of charm back on and give my best dandy smile. Nothing to see here, I am unaffected and ready to get back to my flirting.

There's simply something about this moment that breaks my heart for both of them, despite the lighthearted tone of the entire scene prior.

Because they're just hiding themselves from each other in plain sight, like they each poked two holes in a sheet and convinced themselves the world sees them as ghosts when all they really want is the other to see underneath.

Appreciation for y’all and this community

I just wanted to make a quick post to share my appreciation for y’all and this subreddit, especially during Pride month. I have recently come out as bisexual, and have posted about it here a few times.. especially my bi-panic for Luke and Nic lol. Everyone here has been so kind, understanding, and y’all have welcomed me with open arms.

I have seen bi-phobia on a few other fan pages, and it is really disheartening to see.

The support means the world to me, and has given me the courage to come out to a few more people in my real life, who have mostly been supportive.

Fun fact, it was watching Bridgerton (as well as going to a Taylor Swift concert) that helped me confirm my long suspicions that I was bisexual. I think I have always known, I just didn’t have the courage to admit it until this year.

And thank you to the cast of this amazing show who have always shown their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Anyways, 9 more days until part 2!!
