Did you know there are an estimated 8.7 million species of plants and animals on Earth? Each one has evolved to thrive in unique environmental conditions. Areas with a high concentration of species found nowhere else are called biodiversity hotspots. Today, 36 hotspots around the world contain 44% of the world’s plants and 35% of land vertebrates. Sadly, many of these areas are under pressure from human activity. The top five threats to global biodiversity are: 1. Invasive species 2. Climate change 3. Habitat loss and degradation 4. Overexploitation 5. Pollution In our changing climate, protecting and restoring biodiversity hotspots is crucial. Read below to learn more about seven of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots! https://lnkd.in/eEppkM7a

As deforestation and forest degradation continue to accelerate, drones are helping the efforts towards global reforestation. 🌲 Global NGO One Tree Planted teamed up with six leading law firms to understand the regulations around drone use in eleven countries – stretching from North America to Asia and Australia. Now, with a clear understanding of the law, they can rely on this technology to remotely monitor where trees are planted. Read how their work with firms Norton Rose Fulbright, Altacit Global, Kimathi & Partners, Cescon, Barrieu, Flesch & Barreto Advogados, Basham, Ringe y Correa, S.C., and Meru & Ngaji Advocates has won them a Powered by Pro Bono Award at the #TrustLawAwards. ⤵️ https://bit.ly/3Uuq88I

Exciting news from NASA! 🌕🌳 After carefully reviewing hundreds of applications, NASA has selected organizations from across the U.S. to receive ‘Moon Tree’ seedlings that orbited the Moon on the Artemis I mission in 2022. These unique seedlings will be planted in communities nationwide, inspiring future generations. “A new era of Moon trees will one day stand tall in communities across America,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson. “NASA is bringing the spirit of exploration back down to Earth because space belongs to everyone. The Artemis Generation will carry forth these seedlings that will be fertile ground for creativity, inspiration, and discovery for years to come.” The Artemis I Moon Trees, inspired by the original Moon Trees flown by NASA astronaut Stuart Roosa during Apollo 14, traveled 270,000 miles from Earth aboard the Orion spacecraft. Various tree species, including sycamores, sweetgums, Douglas firs, loblolly pines, and giant sequoias, will be shipped to nearly 50 institutions across 48 states! Africa Day is a reminder that we have the power to create positive change in our communities and around the world. 🌏 One Tree Planted's focus across Africa is to rebuild animal habitats, restore soil and critical watersheds, and improve the lives of the communities that rely on the forests the most. Our planting partners promote agroforestry and educate farmers on the benefits of improved forestry practices, providing communities with sustainable sources of food, wood, and income. Happy World Biodiversity Day! 🐘🦒 Forest ecosystems encompass richly layered habitat types, which provide shelter to a breathtaking range of biodiversity — including 80% of amphibian species, 75% of bird species, and 68% of mammal species. We are facing a climate crisis and the rapid loss of Earth's remaining wild places. As we lose habitats, we also lose biodiversity. This is where trees come in! Reforestation helps to restore at-risk ecosystems and habitats, ultimately increasing food supply, health, and overall well-being of amazing animals. Let's ensure everyone, no matter how big or small, has a place to call home. https://lnkd.in/eGg_e2AU [Statistics source: https://lnkd.in/d4d8gCYV]

🐝 It's World Bee Day! 🐝 Bees are part of the biodiversity on which we all depend for our survival - Unfortunately, they are negatively impacted in many ways by our very own human activities. Bees face declining populations due to habitat loss, intensive farming, weather changes, and excessive pesticide use. This threatens plants crucial to human well-being. Air pollution unfortunately worsens the issue, interfering with bees' ability to locate food efficiently and impacting pollination! 🌍 Let us commit ourselves to this vital cause and work collaboratively towards a future where bees continue to thrive as integral components of our natural world. #BeeConservation #Sustainability #EnvironmentalStewardship

Honoring National Endangered Species Day 🦏 As we commemorate National Endangered Species Day, we're reminded of the critical role we play in safeguarding the biodiversity that call our planet home. Biodiversity, the variety of life on Earth in all forms and interactions, thrives in healthy habitats where nature can recover after ecological disturbance. Reforestation is essential for this process. At One Tree Planted, we are proud to support the protection of endangered species by increasing forest cover, restore holistic ecosystems for a range of flora & fauna, and improve soil stability by restoring degraded areas. Take action for National Endangered Species Day - Plant a Tree for Biodiversity! 🌲 https://lnkd.in/e5NmfQKR #NationalEndangeredSpeciesDay #Conservation #Reforestation #Biodiversity
