The growth we are seeing in the Indigenous financial sector goes much further than loan guarantees and pipeline equity deals, even as those were critical in creating that momentum. Big, sophisticated deals are getting struck in real estate, natural resources, and energy, and the country’s best business minds are looking at where to go next. There are opportunities for all sides to prosper. JP Gladu BScF MBA ICD.D and Jaimie Lickers

"In what can seem like a pretty bleak economic landscape, the Indigenous financial sector in Canada is growing by leaps & bounds," write Senior Fellow JP Gladu & Jaimie Lickers. "If you’re still sitting on the sidelines, now is the time to get in." #indigenous #resources #canada #investment #finance

Building solutions for one of the greatest challenges of our lifetime: First Nations Major Projects Coalition and Mokwateh launch the National Indigenous Electrification Strategy. We need to nearly triple the country’s current electricity supply capacity to meet rapidly growing demands. Not an easy feat. Yet, a remarkable opportunity to rectify past energy system mistakes and center Indigenous self-determination, ownership, and participation in shaping the energy systems of our future. With the support of the Clean Economy Fund and the Ivey Foundation, our team, in partnership with First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC), spent the last year facilitating workshops in Calgary and Toronto. We engaged with Indigenous Nations, industry, and government to uncover the major barriers and opportunities in this new energy reality.  The culmination of the work was launched with a National Indigenous Electrification Strategy at FNMPC’s conference: Our Collective Advantage: Indigenous Consent, earlier this week. The strategy lays out the need for Indigenous ownership of clean electricity assets for the net zero transition with 44 recommendations for governments, regulators, the private sector, and Indigenous Nations. 📖 Find the full strategy here: https://lnkd.in/gf8cXvYT ⏰ Short on time? Read the executive summary instead: https://lnkd.in/dwz9pvee We are tremendously excited to begin the work of implementing this strategy. We are definitely stronger together.  Much gratitude for the determined efforts of our partners Niilo Edwards, ICD.D and Sue Von der Porten , and our visionary Mokwateh team - Katarina Savic, JP Gladu BScF MBA ICD.D and Max Skudra. Many people collaborated to make this strategy possible, including Jesse McCormick, Mark Podlasly ICD.D, Kwatuuma Cole Sayers, Cherie Brant, BES, JD, ICD.D, and Sarah Diebel. It could not have been done without the support of the Clean Economy Fund and Ivey Foundation and the incredible contributions of Eric Campbell and Aimee J. Poulin. Miigwech.

As part of this invitation I was also asked to provide a keynote intervention on the session "Engaging People as Active Participants" I have linked my Keynote below if anyone is interested. But I encourage you to watch the entire summit. It was amazing to hear such diverse perspective on shared issues we all have with the clean energy transition. I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved and to have made connections with so many like minded individuals on an international stage. I truly believe we can learn so much from each other as we navigate this transition. https://lnkd.in/g7w-d_aA
