Research and Education for a Better Society

About us

Sage is a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources with a growing range of technologies to enable discovery, access, and engagement. Believing that research and education are critical in shaping society, 24-year-old Sara Miller McCune founded Sage in 1965. Today, we are controlled by a group of trustees charged with maintaining our independence and mission indefinitely. Driven by the belief that social and behavioral science has the power to improve society, we focus on publishing impactful research and enabling robust research methodology. We produce high-quality educational resources that support instructors to prepare the citizens, policymakers, educators and researchers of the future. Sage is committed to building an inclusive organization where all individuals are treated with fairness and respect, regardless of age, ability, gender, marriage and partnership status, pregnancy and parental responsibilities, race, religion and belief, socio-economic background, or sexual orientation. Diversity is one of the cornerstones of a vibrant culture and we are undertaking work to build a Sage that is more equitable and representative of the communities we serve and of which we are part. As well as driving change within Sage, we are also passionate about supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in wider society through our publishing activities. Dr. Molefi Kete Asante, founder of the Sage Journal of Black Studies, shared his thoughts on the myth of the racial hierarchy, its influence on our lives, and more in a recent fireside chat hosted in the Sage Thousand Oaks office. I was deeply honored to facilitate this intimate conversation, covering themes our colleagues want to explore, better understand, and practice. In my role as the U.S. Senior DEI Business Partner, it was a privilege to have this conversation with Dr. Asante, drawing insights from his book, "Being Human Being." Dr. Asante's examination of the myth of the racial ladder underscores the importance of dismantling racial constructs for the betterment of society, emphasizing our shared humanity over systemic divisions. Breaking down this system is a collective responsibility. I invite you to watch the recorded conversation to learn more about this work that’s so integral in reimagining a world that works for all. https://lnkd.in/gEMdZnaU

We recently partnered with The Amos Bursary, an organization dedicated to supporting Black British youth excel in education and beyond. The Amos Bursary recently held its Career Carousel bringing together students, programme alums, and corporate partners for a networking event. Sage’s Jude Bowen, associate director of books, editorial, hosted a table where students inquired about career paths in publishing. "Spending time with the students and responding to their insightful questions helped me understand what will appeal to them as they enter the workplace and how Sage can ensure it’s an attractive option for those looking to work in the publishing industry," said Bowen. We are proud to be named 2024 Regional Partner of the Year by Scripps National Spelling Bee. “The spelling bee process is a labor of love. Our goal is to host a spelling bee event that inspires joy, instills a sense of accomplishment, and will form a lasting positive impression on the spellers and their families,” says Ana Rubio, Corporate Events & Community Relations Manager for Sage. “In turn we hope the experience will motivate and inspire the spellers to continue striving to achieve their dreams, academic and otherwise.” We sponsor a sweepstakes in partnership with Scripps for professional development materials from Corwin, a Sage company committed to K-12 education, for school bee coordinators throughout the nation. Ana continues, “We all agreed that sponsoring the bee was a natural fit within Sage’s mission of building bridges to knowledge and supporting K-12 education.” Read more below and watch “Fritz Goes to the Bee – A Sage Ventura County Spelling Bee Adventure,” created by Sage and Corwin: https://lnkd.in/ddh3RQWr
