I happen to be updating ADX test questions and periodically encounter these older questions still on the test: "When is a supplemental air carrier, operating under IFR, required to list an alternate airport for each destination airport within the 48 contiguous United States?" Review for the day: why should this question and others like it be stricken from the test bank?

Result of Twitter Poll: 2 out of 3 missed it. Watch those METAR remarks. Twitter Poll 12/08/2023 Q: Can the aircraft depart KABC based on the given information and the reported temperature? KABC 082151Z 09007KT 10SM FEW080 FEW210 43/11 A2942 RMK AO2 T04380111 $ KABC elevation = 4,900’ Given: Aircraft maximum temperature limitations for takeoff from the Airplane Flight Manual: 49˚C for Pressure Altitudes between -1,000 to 2,400’. 38˚C at Pressure Altitude of 8,400’. (linear interpolate between 2,400’ and 8400’.) ------- Solution: Answer to the poll question: No. Why not? · PA = 4,900 + 500 = 5,400’ · Max temp at 5,400’ PA = 43.5˚C via interpolation, which is halfway between 49˚C and 38˚C = 43.5˚C · Reported temp in body of METAR = 43˚C, but the remarks yield a more specific temperature of 43.8˚C which exceeds the max of 43.5˚.

Sobering fact for the day: reading on social media how these mills out there are peddling their school by citing ADX test score averages and NOTHING about true (non-standardized) school exams that go towards "successfully completing" a Part 65 dispatcher course. Passing a big memory ADX 'test' is NOT a student's ticket to the practical certification exam, and is NOT what this profession is about. But many schools appear to equate this ADX 'test' nonsense to success and getting a ticket to the FAA practical exam. What might be more upsetting - since I receive the emails begging us for help - is that many of these 'ADX experts' - so-called graduates, will trail behind or fail during airline initial training, assuming they even pass a real FAA AD practical exam (for another post), and pass the interview. Gee, I wonder how many course operators can cite the 200+ errors, incomplete statements, or misleading questions from within the ADX question bank. (i.e. how do you graph Pressure Altitude for takeoff without an altimeter setting/QNH??) The ADX test should have been abolished decades ago (more in future posts.) Schools would actually have to create, and hopefully make students think. Airlines could then interview qualified applicants who won't utter nonsense that BR is 'baby rain' or that ALS is some disease and not a lighting system that affects landing minimums when inoperative. And last but not least as to why the ADX does not reflect reality: the FAA dropped complete flight logs (a very basic attempt at flight planning) from the ADX test. I thought flight planning was the essence of the Aircraft Dispatcher's responsibilities per Part 121. So keep 'acing' your bogus test - it means nothing.

Sheffield School is currently looking for 1-2 additional dispatcher instructors. Please note: if you can listen to our guidance, take notes, prepare and study, and follow our instructions and directions, then you can do this job. Each class then becomes much simpler to teach. Education required: Successful completion of Sheffield School's Aircraft Dispatcher certification course and FAA AD Certificate received (practical exam passed) at Sheffield School. Miscellaneous requirements: qualified to work in the USA, ability to instruct clearly; be prompt/on time to work, have a good attitude, common sense, patience, strong work ethic, etc.. Job typically requires standing for up to 6-8 hours per day when class is in session. Salary: to be based on experience, background, health insurance needs, etc..discussed via email or in person. Checkout/OJT salary will be reduced based on simply observing a 5-week class (time required likely 1-2 months.) once checked out - salary will increase likely 10-20%; plus likely mid-year and end-year bonuses. Projected annual raise following successful 12-month evaluation and review: 4-10% + annual bonus. Health insurance after 3 months. IRA/retirement plan after 3 years.
