This fish sauce is the one most commonly found in grocery stores and is the only one most people have tasted. That's why it has high reviews. They don't know any better. It's mediocre at best but at a good price.

Fish sauce should only have two ingredients: anchovies and salt. Anything else and you have a cheaper, lesser fish sauce. You'll notice the ingredients of this one includes water and sugar. The use anchovy extract and add water to it to make the sauce. It has a weak fish taste that is sweet.

Get yourself some Red Boat if you want real fish sauce.

It is also helpful to see a guarantee that it is gluten free that takes away any suspicion of contamination considering the traditional process of making fish sauce and its twin brother, anchovies (“bagoong”). Downside - a bit expensive.
