Wife Swap

A thought I had while watching it, what do they tell the wife's employers/workplace? Like I figure it's got to be mostly staged, but it's just hilarious to think like "okay for the next 5 days you won't have your regular realtor; you will actually have someone who hasn't worked at all, but yeah she's swapping lives with the regular one, so just be patient."

I didn’t grow up with cable (edit: I didn’t watch any TV really, and yes this show was not on cable but besides the point). Which now watching shows like this I am kinda glad I didn’t lol I don’t think this would have been good for me growing up.

I am currently on season 5, I usually play it in the background as I am doing chores or cooking, etc. but when I do sit down and pay attention it sometimes can be really intense to watch back to back. The 2000s really was a wild time. A lot of the families with physical and verbal abuse really affects me especially knowing that I was close to the same age as some of those kids in the show at the time of filming.

Anyone else get really affected by those episodes? I’m still surprised some of this stuff got aired like no problem, but I guess that was the state of TV at the time (shock value sells!).

Both men trade homes and families for two weeks they must take each others jobs and responsibilities who does the better job

Watched an episode of Wife Swap from 2007 last night w/ my roommates, one of the families was from Eugene! They lived in Matreiya Eco village, I recognized Van Buren street and New Frontier market. Reality tv is so trippy, especially after taking dabs... If anyone is curious I believe it was S3 E20 on Hulu!

I don't know if anyone has discovered this, but on the Internet Archive Website, their is a page that has most of the old manuals posted on their website from the first three seasons. It is really a deeper dive into how these families operate, and get an even better perspective on how these people run their lives.

My sons and I watched wife swap wwwaaayyy back in the day and I just noticed it’s on Hulu now. While the 3 of us were talking, I saw that one of the children on it had killed his mom and one of his brothers, then tried to kill himself but he survived. We watched the episode (s4e15), and this family was deep into it. They had all sons, some of them adult, who were not allowed to date, watch tv, play video games, were sequestered on their farm, and played in a family bluegrass band. They had to earn tokens to get privileges, like listening to the radio (certain things only), by doing chores. You can tell on the show by their reactions to the new rules, that they are brainwashed in a very unhealthy way, but then actually enjoy some of the things the swapped mom encouraged them to do. The whole thing was very sad and tragic to watch knowing the outcome. The family’s last name was Stockdale.

Hear me out. A show where the leader of groups have to swap with each other for a week. Change dorms, ect ect.

I would pay so much money for this show. Significant amounts of it.

I wanna see Hongjoong trying to control Stray Kids, or Shownu suddenly put in charge of the boyz.

It would be incredible

EDIT: Extra entertainment would be showing the leader clips of their chaotic group potentially behaving better for the sub than they have ever behaved for them

I think MMW and Bossbabe Birthy would be bananas...

• DâäªVe and Miss mid nazi would enjoy cosplaying together, but they would both secretly think that they are the better looking, more interesting one. House would be spotless though.

• Thumb and Bethy ... . Bethy would be filming reels atop piles of laundry and garbage, pure chaos. Thumb would try to bully Bethy once, and then she would absolutely steam roll him. Thumb would cry in the shower just to have a moments peace.

Did anyone watch the show “wife swap”? The producers would take two families who were comically different, like one family is loud and plays practical jokes on each other, another is intellectual and quiet. And they make them switch homes for two weeks. For week 1 they have to abide by the new family’s rules. For week 2 they get to impose their rules from their way of life on the new family.

When they return, they sometimes implement things they learned with their own family.

So if you were a producer, who would you “wife swap” for an entertaining show?

I would choose Jordan Page and Tidy Dad.

Jordan would learn about her excess from having to clean Tidy Dad’s tiny apartment and would know his kids better than her own within two weeks…with that tiny apartment and lack of babysitters on weekends. If she somehow had to teach she’d maybe value education more.

And Tidy Dad would have to try to relax into absolute chaos. lol.

I thought it was going to suck but Bob to the AM and Craig to the PM is excellent.

The show is hilarious, I haven't watched it in years! But I was bored & came across it on Hulu.

Decided to rewatch it just while I do other things around the house. I know it's probably mostly scripted, but man it's funny to watch some of these episodes!

I almost wish they'd make a NEW series with today's families. Watching the show, it's so different how people treated each other back then than now. It would be hilarious to see a new Season & instead of only swaping for 2 weeks it should be a month. I don't feel like 2 weeks is enough time to really get enough drama into an episode lol. What's really crazy is that the younger generation won't even know what this show is.

I wish it had lasted as long as the U.S. one, 4 Seasons is not long enough. I wish it would come back with new seasons.

However, Peterson is perhaps best known for more infamous reasons. During spring training of 1973, he and teammate Mike Kekich revealed that they had traded families and homes. Kekich's wife and two daughters moved in with Peterson, while Peterson's wife and two sons lived with Kekich.

"It wasn't a wife swap. It was a life swap," Kekich said in an interview, via The New York Times. "We're not saying we're right and everyone else who thinks we're wrong are wrong. It's just the way we felt."

I’m on maternity leave and have been binging Wife Swap.

Before the women go to their “new” families, they’re asked what they hope to gain from the experience.

The answers are usually along the lines of “having my family realize how much I do” or “sharing my views with others”.

If you were able to swap into a different family for two weeks, what would you hope to experience? What rules do you value and would bring into another household?

I know people committing crimes is pretty normal, but watching the seasons back I’ve looked up a few different families to see where they are now. So many of the kids have since completed major crimes. Has anyone else noticed this? It seems to be a lot of the kids that come from the stricter set of parents like the one son from the first episode of the first season, or the Wife Swap Family Murders. Are there any that truly shocked you to see later?

Plenty of us have agreed that SW and NK were ultimately different flavors of the same controlling woman. But something recently came to my mind: we like to say that CW and SW were only together because it was convenient or that they were mismatched even from the start....were they? CW being a gear head and SW working and being part of the culture of Dirty South actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it. SW came across as someone who knew a lot about cars and enjoyed the sexy vibe and culture of where she worked. I can absolutely see CW falling head over heels for her in the beginning. She absolutely was his type for where he was at that point in his life. Y'all also know that I think he was ultimately a childfree man. I think he would have been perfectly content having zero kids. Marrying the sexy and fun boss babe with fertility issues and no kids from her first marriage of six years sounds right up his alley. We know their story so there isn't much more to go into with that.

Not even a decade later we have NK enter the picture. CW had gotten back into working out, and SW was pregnant with their third child. We can't be exactly sure when his affair began, but we do know that it was physical when SW and the kids were in NC.

My question is two fold: Let's say we switch the characters, do you think that if CW had initially married NK and later met SW that he would have cheated? I know that looks aren't everything, but in my opinion SW is overall better looking and at the time when they met, she was sexier. NK was plain Jane and to be honest I side eye a woman that interested in fitness and guy stuff who is still single at her age. It makes me think that long term commitment just isn't her thing. Couple that with her wanting CW to find his own place instead of inviting him to live with her and continuing to keep her dating profiles open, I do wonder how serious she was about him. And please do not come at me with Google searches. Her best friend was getting married and without context we have no idea what those Google searches were about or if they were applicable to her personal life. Actions speak louder than Google searches.

My thoughts are that CW was interested in NK because she was new and different and he was in his glow up.

My second question is this: Do you think that a lot of the anger and resentment that CW had towards SW was that his marriage was a far cry from what he thought he was getting in the beginning?

These thoughts are coming from just an overall idea that some men level up while married to cheat with someone who is different than their wife, but that they aren't showing what they're truly interested in, had they initially married their mistress, they could just as easily cheat on that type of woman with the woman they married.

When in reality SW and NK were a lot alike, just different in that NK had less debt. Heck, the other day I paused a video of SW without make up and if I told you it was NK, you'd believe me.
