First new one after a few years, great quality still

This is what you expect from a Leatherman/similar multi tool: Heavy, kinda clunky, solid, very useful.

It came as the proper product, well and safely and legitimately packaged (nowadays a risk here on Amazon I see so I mention this).

All parts work and are in high quality function (remember, the sharps arrive sharp lol).

If you’re new to these sorts of tools you’ll find it feels heavier and clunkier than you may find ideal when you first deal with it and wonder… but it’s like that for good reason and you get used to the feel of the leatherman. They’re built sturdy and while I’ve only had this one a very short amount of time I have had a few in the past of similar styles (lost, none let me down) I can assure this one is going to hold up to a lot of use. They take abuse well lol.

It’s, of course, stiff in opening some parts but well greased. Again, common. Through use the stiffness of some parts will ease, depending on amount of use….

I needed something basic but also varied, I went with this model as it’s always a balancing act on multi tools of what parts do I and don’t I actually ever see myself using/needing and what am I actively seeking. As it’s largely for my camping needs this fits while coming along with a few things I may not use or may use differently than they are intended, as one does with tools haha; In addition to camping I randomly have to make repairs on the go to items and such (I’m a nomad who lives out of their backpack traveling around the world for years, you have to have fix-its at hand because who knows when or where something will break or how?)… so those extra tool bits that are honestly not likely to be used hardly ever may just come in handy at some point.

Which was also the case when I was living in one place, so hey.

If you’re like me and have that balance of “mostly for my outdoorsy life but here and there now and then, too” this style of leatherman I think is a good option. It’s always hard to narrow down multitools to the right one.

So 5 stars:

Despite Amazon arriving packages nowadays sometimes being dodgy, mine was fully legitimate.

It is a good model for the “mostly for when camping but otherwise handy…” - not an EVERYTHING model and not a might miss something model.

Very solid, well sharpened, sturdy hinges, good quality that I know from previous experiences will live up hard to proper use and additional abuse (my first ever was of this same quality back when I was in the Army and I assure you it withstood a lot more than average person's use… kinda awe inspiring, honestly).

As I repeat, it is heavy and clunky and feels weird/awkward in the hand when using it (or at least it does for someone with my size hands… they’re admittedly small but I think this is a pretty universal feel lol). But that isn’t out of proportion for the tool. It’s the correct amount for the size, shape, and tools within this multitool… something to be aware of if it’s your first to expect and know it’s normal. If it’s not your first multitool of these kinds then know that this is one of the ones where the balance for the multitool is right.

My 3rd or so black one, I think (as said, over the decades I lose a lot of stuff between moves and life) and it’s absolutely lovely to look at.

I owned a Surge, which is a great tool but is also an almost ridiculously massive and heavy chunk of equipment to try to carry around in a pocket or on a belt. I also found the blades to be so large as to be strangely unwieldy for common utility type tasks. The tool set, however, is outstanding and it's as rugged as they come. So it works if you need that sort of size and performance, and are content to consign it to a toolbox rather than carrying it all times. Or if you don't mind wearing a multitool that weighs in the neighborhood of some light firearms.
I also own a Curl, which is a great tool also, but does lack in a couple respects. It's unfortunate that it does not have the replaceable wire cutters, and has only the single combo blade for a knife. The replaceable wire cutters is actually a big deal, IMO. I haven't even owned the Curl for all that long and already managed to put a small divot into the cutters, and now the plier action sticks a little. For that reason I don't really consider it to be a serious "workhorse" tool. It's more like one to put in a desk drawer.
I now have my first Wave+ and have to say I'm smitten by it. It's only a bit heavier than the Curl but quite substantially lighter than the Surge. I find it to be basically perfect in terms of size and heft. That 8 ounce mark seems to be the sweet spot for pocket or belt carry-ability. The tool set is close to perfect, also, though there are a couple things I'd change. One thing I really liked about the Surge is the much more robust and outside-accessible scissors. I'd replace the file on the Wave+ with that same set of scissors. I'd also replace the saw on the Wave+ with the swap-able saw/file implements that the Surge offers. I guess what I'm saying in effect is that I'd make the Wave+ a scaled-down version of the Surge. But it's close enough to perfect, as-is, to love it and regard it as basically the king of all multitools.

Costly but high quality. Blades and saw are very sharp, pliers could pull fine splinter from my finger, replaceable cutter worked nicely on many small steel nails. Used small screwdriver on my eye glasses and worked to tighten screws. Scissors are small but can cut two layers of package cardboard. Can opener tested on couple of cans and worked well. Screw drivers also worked for small/medium screws. Have not tested pry tool. Really liked the built in but hidden lanyard loop that you can pull out from saw's resting groove.

Adquirí esta herramienta por que buscaba ergonómica en el agarre y calidad en los materiales. Mis expectativas fueron cumplidas. Hay un solo detalle que haría esta herramienta perfecta: debido a que los brazos de la herramienta son muy cortos y a que justo en la base de las pinzas , al cerrar los brazos hay un espacio muy pequeño entre las navajas de un brazo y las herramientas del otro, esto puede dar lugar a pellizcos muy dolorosos si eres de los que toman las pinzas muy cerca del cabezal. Fuera de eso es la herramienta perfecta. Creo que no es para trabajo muy pesado ya que la versión SURGE de la misma marca es mucho mas robusta. Leatherman Wave es para trabajos esporádicos caseros de baja exigencia. El acero de ja hoja esta afilado de fabrica y su filo es excelente: Tener cuidado! Apretar con la mano las pinzas desplegadas es sumamente cómodo. No hay ninguna otra herramienta que provea esa comodidad gracias a sus bordes redondeados. Me faltarían palabras para expresar lo contento que estoy con la herramienta. Solo ignoro si la garantía de 25 años que ofrece la marca es valida fuera de EUA.
