As girlpuppy, Becca Harvey's melancholy, hook-anchored indie rock lands in the vicinity of artists like Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, and Phoebe Bridgers, some of whose behind-the-scenes collaborators she's employed in the studio. After drawing praise from national outlets for the project's 2021 debut EP, she followed up her first full-length, When I'm Alone, in 2022.

A project based in Atlanta, Georgia and started during the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, girlpuppy released the debut single "For You" in May of 2020. Royal Mountain Records soon came calling, and Harvey recorded her debut EP with producer Marshall Vore (Phoebe Bridgers, Ada Lea). Titled Swan, it arrived in August 2021, leading to tours with the Districts and Matt Maltese. Harvey next enlisted help from producer Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Claud) for the brighter, if breakup-themed, stand-alone single "I Miss When I Smelled Like You," which saw release in June 2022. She didn't waste any time in recording girlpuppy's full-length debut, When I'm Alone, with Alex G guitarist Sam Acchione, who had produced Tomberlin's Projections EP (2020). Henry Stoehr of Slow Pulp engineered and mixed the album, which arrived on Royal Mountain in October 2022. ~ Marcy Donelson
