    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

Time for us to end it there for this game.

I'll leave you with Matt Howarth's report and the highlights as Robert Lewandowski scores his first World Cup goal as Poland beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 to go top of Group C.

Keep an eye on the football section of the BBC Sport website and app for reaction from Lewandowski over the next few hours.

Steven Jerjian: Probably not the source of service Lewandowski had in mind, but he won’t care one bit. His emotion shows what playing for your country means.

  3. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

    Two games remain today.

Argentina face Mexico in the other Group C game at 19:00 GMT.

First, though, we've got France v Denmark from 16:00. The live text and radio coverage of that game has already started.

    Both should be crackers.

  4. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

Just checking in for the first time in this game?

Here are the two goals that helped Poland go top of Group C.

They are in a good position to reach the last 16 for the first time since 1986.

  5. 'You can't find brilliance in every game'

    Poland vs Saudi Arabia

I was scratching my head thinking, "unless Saudi Arabia do something brilliant, they're not going to score." But you can't do that in every game - they had two of those against Argentina.

  6. Stat attack

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

    • Poland are unbeaten in their opening two games of a World Cup tournament for the first time since 1986 (also W1 D1). In the process, they have equalled their longest run of consecutive clean sheets at the World Cup, keeping three in a row for the first time since 1978.
    • Saudi Arabia have lost each of their last nine World Cup matches against European teams dating back to 1994, while failing to score a single goal across the last eight.
    • Saudi Arabia have only kept one clean sheet in their 18 matches at the World Cup – indeed, among teams with at least 10 games played, they have the lowest clean sheet ratio in the tournament’s history (6%).
    • Wojciech Szczesny is the third goalkeeper to save a penalty and keep a clean sheet in the same match at the 2022 World Cup (after Thibaut Courtois and Guillermo Ochoa); already the most times this happened in a single World Cup tournament since 1966 (when data is available).
  7. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

Poland kept faith with their extremely narrow formation throughout the match. Putting Sir Alf Ramsey's wingless wonders (one for the teenagers) to shame...

  8. 'Poland in a phenomenal position'

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

    Pat Nevin

Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Robert Lewandowski has waited a long time for that goal, considering how much he has done in the game.

It won't be just selfishness. He knows that it gets Poland into a phenomenal position in this group. It's in their hands now. They must have feared the worst when Saudi Arabia were rampant in this game, with Argentina ahead of them.

  9. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

    Here is it.

Robert Lewandowski's first World Cup goal.

He was visibly emotional. It clearly meant a great deal to him.

  10. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

Poland have a lot to be grateful to Wojciech Szczesny for.

The penalty save and then the follow-up one were both superb.

He'll definitely be in contention for player of the match.

  11. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

Here's the opening goal of the game.

It was a lovely finish from Piotr Zielinski.

  12. Post update

    FT: Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

This is how Group C looks after that win for Poland.

Argentina meet Mexico at 19:00 GMT.

A defeat would see Argentina and Lionel Messi eliminated.

  13. FULL-TIME

    Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

All over. Poland go top of Group C.

A good day out for them.

  14. 'Not over for Saudi Arabia'

    Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

    Pat Nevin

Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

There are big opportunities for Saudi Arabia and this tournament is not over for them - but suddenly that table is looking a lot better for Poland.

  15. CLOSE!

    Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

    Almost!

Mohammed Kanno tries to curl inside the far post but just doesn't get enough bend on it to hit the target.

    Wojciech Szczesny was beaten.

  16. SUBSTITUTION

    Poland 2-0 Saudi Arabia

Nawaf Al Abid tries to up-end Robert Lewandowski but comes off worse as the Poland striker catches him with a stray boot.

He's going to go off too. He only came on at half-time too.

    Hattan Bahbri comes on.

It's just the nous from Lewandowski. There have been large parts of the game he hasn't been involved in - but you give him one chance and he takes it. He stole the ball.

It's amazing how much more confident you can be when you have a bigger lead.
