33-year-old Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga has made history by becoming the first woman to ever referee at the African Cup of Nations.

She has officiated at the Olympics, FIFA Women’s World Cup, Africa Women’s Cup of Nation and CAF Women’s Champions League.

Postponed from last year due to the COVID19 pandemic, the 33rd edition of AFCON kicked off in Cameroon on Sunday. Cameroon, a favourite in the tournament, is hosting the tournament for the first time since 1972.
