#EmployeeSpotlight - Joey Ryan The Connections You Make Over the past 3 years at GoBankingRates, I’ve made a lot of connections through company outings, zoom meetings and quick slack huddles. All these connections have been very impactful towards my growth & development at GBR, my mindset on GBR’s mission and values and how to handle the remote social balance. Just Ask As an SEM Specialist, when I started at GBR, the biggest hurdle for me was the GBR three KPIs and how we are heading towards a revenue target rather than a given budget. The best way at GBR was to ask questions. I would constantly be asking my managers and coworkers, what does this mean, how do we do that and what do you need me to do. This helped grow not only my development at GBR, but my connections with my coworkers as well. They knew that I wanted to learn and help, but if it wasn’t through the millions of questions they may have never known. A Winning Mindset One of my recent endeavors was visiting California with other fellow coworkers and not only enjoying my experience there, but learning from others on their approach to success. What I found impactful was the approach to managing your communication with your colleagues. Having the end in mind and getting to the point of the meetings. Also, to promote that winning mindset, it’s sharing with your teammates, positively impacting others & always doing your best. Meeting coworkers who have been here for many years helped impact me on what it takes and how to get into that mindset. Remote Social Balance For me working from home can lack that in person social structure. The best way I’ve connected with people is taking on those roles as a buddy, saying yes to work trips & partaking in those social hours. The connections I’ve made through these have made me more confident in how to approach difficult situations and to be a voice in my meetings. The more comfortable you are with your peers, the easier it is to share and not miss out on that remote social balance. I have been at GoBankingRates for 3 years and through my amazing connections & relationships, it feels like I’ve been here for many more. #CreatingConnections #RemoteWorkplace

#EmployeeSpotlight - CJ Williamson From Conversations to Keys Creating connections is about way more than just swapping business cards or following someone on social media. It's about stepping out of your comfort bubble and diving into the rich, varied experiences of others. This might sound a bit intimidating, but it is one of the best ways to grow and find new opportunities. Embrace the awkwardness! The benefits of pushing yourself to make connections are huge. For starters, it gives you a new way to look at, analyze, and solve problems. One way to create diverse connections is by meeting folks from different backgrounds and industries. It can teach you things you would never pick up in your regular circles. Mixing ideas with people who think differently can spark some seriously impressive concepts and solutions that you would never come up with on your own. Whether you are looking for advice, a new job, or just someone to bounce ideas off, a wide and varied network gives you more perspectives and ideas to consider. Plus, stepping out of your comfort zone is a great way to build resilience and get better at dealing with the ups and downs of life. It teaches you to communicate better, be more empathetic, and even improves your leadership skills by constantly teaching you new ways of communicating and working with others. Some of the easiest and strongest connections people make are through similar experiences like school and work. When I was growing up my dad was in the United States Navy, and we had to move every 3 or 4 years to a new state. We moved from California to Maryland to Virginia to Florida to Japan to Washington and changed schools just as frequently. This made it hard for me to make strong lasting connections because after I moved, I would have to devote a lot of energy into keeping those relationships stable. However, it also benefited me by exposing me to a wide range of people, cultures, and ideas, from which I learned many skills and ways of seeing the world. One friend I made while living in Japan became a lifelong friend, we continued to connect with each other through messages and infrequent visits. This friendship proved invaluable when my family was planning another move, this time to Florida. Uncertain of where to live and searching for months, my friend’s family not only recommended an area but also owned a house there. We got a great rental price, while my friend’s family had peace of mind knowing their property was in good hands, saving them the cost of hiring a maintenance service. My mom always taught me to be kind to friends and even kinder to strangers because one day that stranger will become a friend. I strive to live by this principle every time I meet someone new. Who knows? Someday, I might need another recommendation on where to live! #CreatingConnections #BeKind
