So, people really, really want to see “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — so much so, in fact, that they basically broke the internet trying to score presale tickets to the San Francisco run at The Curran theater.

That led to some disappointed folks, who were looking to take advantage of the presale to lock down some of the hottest ducats on the planet.

Here’s a statement regarding the situation from producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender.

“Due to overwhelming response, the ticketing system crashed at the beginning of our priority presale. We are working to resolve the issue and responding to affected patrons. We will ensure anyone who registered for the priority list will have early access to tickets prior to Thursday’s general on-sale.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and delay. For real-time updates, please visit https://www.harrypotteronstage.com/san-francisco/ or check our social handles.”

If anything, demand will be even higher Thursday, March 14, when tickets go on sale to the general public at 11 a.m.For more information, visit https://www.harrypottertheplay.com/san-francisco/.

“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — reportedly the most highly awarded play in theater history — kicks of its exclusive West Coast run at San Francisco’s The Curran theater on Oct. 23.

It’s actually the eighth story in the Harry Potter series but the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. It’s based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling (series author), Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. The two-part play is by Thorne and directed by John Tiffany.

“We are very excited that San Francisco will be the exclusive West Coast location for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’ The magic of the story and the stagecraft are perfect for audiences here, whether they are visitors from around the world or residents of the Bay Area and the region,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of the San Francisco Travel Association.

Producers say the show has garnered 25 major U.S. theater awards, including six Tony Awards, and 24 major theatre awards in the U.K.
