The Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration will be headlined by singer-songwriter Andra Day, who will star as Billie Holiday in the upcoming biopic “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” co-organizers Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment said in a Saturday news release to the Daily News.
Other artists involved include Jennifer Lopez, Billy Porter, Cyndi Lauper, Jimmie Allen, and Machine Gun Kelly, all of whom will perform on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest,” airing on ABC.
Gloria Gaynor will also perform “I Will Survive” along with “Never Can Say Goodbye” and “Joy Comes In The Morning.”
Pitbull and Anitta will both perform on Univision’s “¡Feliz 2021!”
Just before the ball drops at midnight — ending the brutal year that was 2020 — Day will sing a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagination.”
The event will once again be hosted by “Mean Girls” star Jonathan Bennett.
Though closed to the public, the live broadcast will air around the world via webcast starting at 6 p.m. via TimesSquareNYC.org, NewYearsEve.nyc, Livestream.com/2021, and TimesSquareBall.net. The event will stop broadcasting at 12:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
