I like this software. Whether you have a small to midsize business or you want to track your finances this is a great tool to have. Of-coarse with every accounting software there exists some complications, but overall it is good. You will only run into the negative aspects of the program if you try to utilize this software for business use and attempt to do everything on your own without any help or other supplemental programs. For example the template to build the reports/checks is not at all intuitive and sometimes it is very hard to find the right field to show up on your reports/checks. Also correcting balances of the fields can be challenging. So if you use this program as your main accounting software and you want everything to work as flawlessly as possible be prepared to spend a little cash on consultation fees with sage.

I bought 2010 Pro this time around. Before this version.. I bought 2011 Complete Accounting for $26 in March 2012! - I needed another install on another computer, did not want to pay full price so ordered an older version, I think I paid $50 this time around since I wanted the Pro Version and that was the cheapest at the time I purchased but they get cheaper if many are available so just wait and see. I cannot tell the difference between the 2011 and 2010.

REGISTRATION PROCESS - you do not have to call in, go to the link when you try to enter serial number. Click on it and it will take you and redirect you to the most current registration page. At the registration link, you will have to create an account. You will be presented first with "I purchased from SAGE, after 2012/Before 2012", " I purchased from retailer before 2012/After 2012" or something similar, choose the option that "you purchased from retailer before 2012 option". Create the account, you will be presented with options to register your product, not many options but just choose SAGE 50, enter your serial number, you will be given the Registration number and USER ID, or two numbers that you need to register the older version.

INSTALLATION: I have both 2010 (Upgraded to 2012 for free) and 2011 installed on Win 7, no errors. If you do have errors, try installing using compatibility mode, right click on install file, change to/install as Win XP SP3, hit Ok. That usually fixes issues if you are having issues .. but I never had any but I also have the latest updates from Windows.
For CD Issues, I copied the CD onto a flash drive, then installed the program from the flash drive and it did not freeze up. I believe it is a problem with the CDs that causes issues. My Laptop would freeze, the CD would not eject when trying to install. I ended up just doing a copy command instead of installing it from CD. The drive I was using on my laptop is prone to failure and I have never used the drive for anything except this install. My wife has same laptop and my drive is exhibiting the same issues as hers was before we replaced her DVD/CD drive for a new one ... so not sure if the issue is due to failing drive or bad CD. I copied CD on a desktop to the flash drive.

BIG BONUS - the 2010 Pro Accounting was upgraded to 2012 Version automatically.

Registration is the same across the board ... I remember doing the same thing in 2011 when I bought the 2011 Complete Accounting, very painless and easy as can get, ignore other users who can't figure something out on their own.

This is a complete accounting solution, not easy to learn but you need to play around with it. I needed to keep track of inventory. I repair iPods, iPhones, iPads and cost of parts that are purchased for repair need to be deducted from the repair (first in, First Out) as costs change constantly for parts acquired for the repair ... and Sage Accounting does the trick. Very tedious but once you figure it out, does the trick for my type of business.

You do not need to renew every year, it just nags you ONCE at start up that this product is no longer supported and you will have to upgrade if you need troubleshooting support with the product. Close it out and continue. I have started multiple companies using 2011 Complete Accounting and I started using it Mar 2012 but not so sure about this one. My main concern was having to pay again every year for a new license but not the case. Its just no longer supported if you have issues and have to call in ... unless you upgrade.

DO NOT USE THIS SENDER. I ordered a copy of Peachtree from this sender and expected it to be an unused copy. The copy came in a completely closed wrap. However, when I tried to put it on my PC and register the copy; I found that it was already registered. I ordered this version because I had used peachtree before and didn't think that getting a prior year would make that much difference. However, I didn't expect to get a copy that I would not be able to call for support if the copy didn't work. The only reason why Peachtree would not provide technical support is because this copy had already been registered by a preview owner.

It has been a bit more difficult to navigate through this new program. Setting it up for a computer novice like myself has been a challenge. However, hopefully once I learn all the codes, numbers, etc. it should be better. I used Quick Books for years, but, our accountant switched over to Peachtree, and believes it is a better company and better program to use for our small business.

It lacks a clear and editable format to its ledger posting page. It uses vendor numbers instead of names for vendors, and it is not possible to extend the space for vendor identification if you would elect to use a name or abbreviation for vendors. The whole program is difficult to get around in, and perhaps is intended for 'educated' bookkeepers rather than the average small business operator. I would not recommend this program unless you have had some bookkeeping training. I have maintained my business for over 30 years with other programs and have found the switch to be confusing and overly complicated.
