With gas prices hitting all-time highs and no sign of them falling anytime soon, everyone is looking for ways to save on gas. It can be done in many ways, but I’ll try to point out the best three in this article.

Driving Habits

The way you drive affects fuel consumption a lot. You should avoid hard accelerations and sudden and sharp stops. That’s why cars burn less fuel on the highway than in the city, where you have to stop at traffic lights and pedestrian crossings. Also, you might consider turning the engine off if you are stuck in traffic or if you stop for a couple of minutes to pick your friend up. You should try to drive at a steady pace, and a little slower than most drivers are used to, which can save you up to 50-60 cents per gallon.

Keep the tires inflated

The tires should always be well inflated, because they need more energy to roll on the road if they are underinflated. That extra energy means that the car burns more fuel as opposed to when they are properly pumped up. You can save about 7-8 cents per gallon if you pay attention to this detail.

Maintaining your car

Keeping an eye on a couple of car parts and their condition can also be crucial to fuel consumption. For example, the air filter needs to be regularly cleaned, or replaced if necessary. This, along with regular tune-ups can help you save 10 cents per gallon.

To sum up, there are many ways for reducing fuel consumption and saving money on gas, but it is essential to pay attention to the way you drive and maintain your car.
