Emily K. Karlewicz was born in King George, VA, and grew up in an extremely theatrical family. In 2008, she graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre, and spent three years traveling with the world renowned Missoula Children's Theatre. While on the road, she was inspired by the landscape outside her window, and began writing her first novel, Lightscape. With the encouragement of her husband and mother, she completed Lightscape in less than a year, and is now busy at work writing the second installment in her Lightscape Trilogy.

Emily spends her days reading, writing, and teaching children in the fields of dance, acting, and voice. She lives in Colonial Beach, VA with her husband, 2 children, and a small zoo of pets.

This book is amazing. I love how detailed the connection and feelings are between Selkie and Aiden are. As I read it, i could feel everything they felt. It was so unreal but relatable all at the same time. I really liked how there were detailed flashback memories in the book that helped you really understand some of the characters better, gave them depth. Definitely a book that will make you want to neglect all other responsibilities until you finish...and then long for the next book to be released!

This was a great book. From the moment I started reading I couldn't put it down until the end. Even then I had a desire to reread the whole thing!
The story and characters were all very original...nothing like what is out there now. From the very beginning you are drawn in to Selkie's world and you feel what she feels every step of the way. The detail in the book was amazing and never overdone. I am very excited for the second book to come out. I can only imagine this getting even better.

In Emily Karlewicz's debut novel, "Lightscape," Selkie and Aidan arrive on the scene with both heart-wrecking and exhilarating sincerity. Selkie, an Irish orphan, links up with Aidan, an Irish clansman and "Protector." The connection between the two is powerfully gripping, and your curiosity won't allow you to put the book down (I finished it in 23 hours!). Without giving away all the good stuff, I will say that "Lightscape" blends elements of magical and spiritual realms together in a completely unique way.

Karlewicz has complete control of her story, creativity, and style, and she is definitely one to watch out for! I'm eagerly awaiting book two and can't wait to see what happens to Selkie and Aidan next. Also…. What's up with Gabe?!

Be prepared for forbidden romance, science fiction and mystery in Emily K. Karlewicz's new book Lightscape! A jaw clenching account of Selkie and Aidan, their forbidden romance and the mystery surrounding their undeniable connection. Is it love at first sight? Or are there dark forces at work? Lightscape is definitely worth the read and the cliffhanger ending has me anticipating the release of the next book in the series.
