Arjuna, botanically called Terminalia Arjuna, is a deciduous tree of Combretaceae family, found in India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. The height of the tree is up to 20 m and its bark is slightly gray. Its flowers are small and white in color. It holds special significance as medicinal herb in Ayurveda, owing to its cardio protective properties. Terminalia Arjuna is an Ayurvedic medicine that can also be used as a supplement to diet.


It helps in the smooth functioning of cardiovascular system by normalizing the disturbed heartbeat rhythms and bringing it to a stable rate. Research has shown that bark extract of Arjuna is effective for protection against myocardial changes and for protection against angina. It helps in regulating cholesterol and prevents arteries from getting hardened. Arjuna has also been found useful in curing chronic cough when taken with sputum and haemoptysis and Vasa leaves. The constituents of Arjuna herb are helpful in protecting DNA from harmful toxins and damage caused by them.


Arjuna herb can be used as a therapy to flush down antioxidants from the body and hence improving skin glow. It is the astringent property of Arjuna that helps in curing acne and unwanted skin marks.
