'300' The Prequel: Meet The New Xerxes

Last time we saw Xerxes, he was a creepy giant covered in jewelry. We're guessing that things will be different for the prequel... Find out who's playing the king this time!

The long-awaited 300 prequel is finally on its way, and today we have more good news: We have a Xerxes! And his name is Sullivan Stapleton, THR reports. So who is this guy?  

Joel Edgerton was previously attached to the project, but this other Aussie has now stepped in. Sullivan was in fact Edgerton's unstable partner in crime in Animal Kingdom. (If you still haven't seen this film, go watch it, it's brilliant!) And this year he will also appear in The Gangster Squad, alongside Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Take a look at the photo below: he doesn't look like a king yet, but we see some potential there!

We can't wait to see him as Xerxes, the king-turned-god. Let's just hope he dials the weirdness down a notch, since he will be in really good company. Eva Green is in talks to play Artemisia, 'a ruthless, covered in gold goddess' who talks Xerxes into raising an army and starting a war. Brace yourself Sullivan, you may play the king, but you will be in the presence of a true goddess!

And if seeing Eva covered in gold is not reason enough to get excited for the movie... who are we kidding? Of course she's reason enough!
