Product Description

The FT-65R transceivers are very compact and light, yet ruggedly constructed. Three selectable output power settings - 5W/ 2.5W and 0.5W – allowing each user to choose the power they want for their operating needs. The Big Front Speaker provides a full 1 Watt of powerful very crisp and clear audio output in keeping with YAESU uncompromising pursuit of audio quality. The supplied 1950mAh Li-ion battery pack is capable of over nine (9) hours operation while an optional higher capacity 2500mAh Li-ion battery pack provides over 11.5 hours of expanded operating time for those needing even more operating time between recharges. A 2.5-hour Rapid Charger is included as a supplied accessory that fulfills the needs of must operators who want to have their transceivers ready for use at all times. Our newly designed large white LED displays for the FT-65R transceivers are vibrant and highly visible. Four (4) Quick Recall Keys (QRK) are individually user-programmable to store and recall favorite frequency settings and to be used as short-cut keys to Set Mode menu items. VOX operation is available with the attractively priced optional Earpiece Microphone - SSM-512B. Other useful included standard features are: versatile scanning capabilities such as Programmable VFO Scan, Memory Scan, Priority Channel Scan, and Weather Alert Scan, WX Channels with “Severe Weather” Alert, PC Programming, Transceiver-to-Transceiver Cloning, FM Broadcast Receiver, Automatic Range Transponder System (ARTS), CTCSS/ DCS Operation, Busy Channel Lockout (BLCO), Automatic Power Off feature, and Transmitter Time Out Timer (TOT). All the features of the new FT-65R transceivers meet commercial grade specifications and certain to provide the high performance demanded by Amateur Radio operators around the world.

Great little HT. Feels sturdy and better made than lesser brands. This one is made in China and not one of the Japanese made radios I was hoping for but still seems very well made. Battery life is surprisingly good, plenty of standby time. Good quality speaker sound. Stock antenna is better than most but I still tend to upgrade all antennas on HT's. It can be unlocked to program some out of band channels for emergencies, i.e., GMRS. No complaints, great little radio especially for new operators, easy to program repeaters.

This radio at first made me think it was a Baofeng in a new case. After about a week with it, I am really impressed and see big improvements over let's say, a UV82 or like. The display for example, is really easy to read with a nice large (and accurate) signal meter similar to the monoband Yaesu radios like the FT-270r. The speaker audio could be a little clearer at high levels but the overall tone and clarity of the audio at medium to lower levels is awesome. The scan is a bit slow but not terrible. The output power and TX audio is fine and delivering what it should. The RX receive is sensitive and has decent quality of adjacent noise rejection although the squelch is a bit too tight even on the lowest setting. Ohh and I can't forget about the amazing whip antenna that comes with the radio. This thing performs equally well on both bands and I really can't find an aftermarket antenna that performs any better! And thank you Yaesu for giving me a normal Motorola style belt clip! For the price, it really is a great radio and I find myself carrying it daily now and love it.

Amazingly fast delivery in a very solid shipping box. I give the seller five stars.

Radio is solidly built. It is a bit confusing at first, but once you figure out the menu it is very simple to program. The manual is very detailed but explains very little clearly about programming (it can be a bit confusing).

The radio gets four stars only because of an apparent loose antenna connection somewhere within the radio that could not be resolved. It affected both receive and transmit.

I had to return my radio because it appears that there is a short in the antenna connector. However, I am ordering another one and hoping that it does not have similar issues.

Would definitely recommend this radio to any amateur license holder. It is solidly built and small enough to go into anyone's go bag.

And, I would definitely recommend this merchant.

I put a Nagoya antenna on this HT as soon as I took it out of the box. I watched a YouTube video showing how to program it. I learned and had it programmed within two hours. I'm the kind of person who can not just take the easy way out and use cable and software. I need to know how to program it manually. Now that it's programmed, I don't see any reason to buy a cable and the software for programming. Be patient and learn how to program it. I frequently use a repeater that is about 20 miles away and it works as long as the radio antenna is straight up and I hold the radio steady in a hot spot while in my chair inside my house!

I don't think you can go wrong purchasing this HT. It simply works very well.

The reason why I am stating that this radio is the best radio is based on using the following radios
1. Yeasu FT3D - Waste of money fancy but reception or transmission is not good.
2. Yaesu ft-70dr - Nice but short battery life and reception/transmission was okay
3. Baoefeng bf-f8hp - Good but not certified for use in USA.
4. Other GMRS radios

Now coming to Yeasu FT-65, the range and the power is outstanding and just to give you an example my son was driving down the road to hill side and I was in our house and there is no line of sight and it is through traffic and flat terrain, we were able to communicate up to 22 miles and it could have been more since my son was driving up the hill the Tesla battery was down but FT65 was still doing good. Transmission and reception is very strong and is very clear. The only challenge is programming this damn things is a pain so I purchased programming cable and now it is a breeze to set this radio up. I have done MARS Mod for emergency use and I was able to communicate with my son on GMRS when hiking with no repeaters. Also applying Mars Mod is simple and through keypad unlike other radios. This proved to be a good radio with my real time test and I don't believe in 5watts, 8 watts and signal test equipment all that stuff. This is real deal.

I really love this little radio!...it is VERY rugged (believe me, I have REALLY put it to the test) I have always been a Yaesu guy, and will always be...Great raidios at an affordable cost. Lots of features...like all radios, it can be hard to program by hand, so I recommend getting the programming software ( RT systems ADMS-65-USB) which makes it REALLY easy to do...battery charge lasts a couple of days after medium use, but get a long life spare battery...I highly recommend this little radio
