The silent killer in your affiliate program… There’s something most brands do that chokes performance and earnings for their affiliates without either of them realizing it’s happening. What is this parasite in your business? Your in-house retargeting campaigns. Yep. Those helpful ad campaigns that boost conversions and help close customers that checked out your product or started the cart and left. Here’s the issue… Affiliate programs are often rolled in after other traffic channels are established. Campaigns and processes have been running. The teams have been operating in certain ways to varying degrees of success. And when new things are spun up whether its a tracking system for affiliates on existing funnels, or getting on an affiliate network with dedicated landers or even domains - the same pixels and retargeting strategies get layered over it. What does NOT happen is making sure the affiliate attribution that was set is kept intact. It’s very easy to overwrite - especially if you’re on different carts and marketplaces. So here’s what you can do: Make sure affiliate funnels have unique retargeting campaigns. Test to ensure affiliates are still attributed. If on a network (like ClickBank) - send those campaigns back through a funnel with the networks checkout and test to ensure the original affiliate attribution is intact. ---- And to those who think they shouldn’t have to pay affiliates on retargeting campaigns and overwrite purposefully or don't care to fix…. How would you have gotten that traffic to convert in the first place? Now on the affiliate side - are you okay with less commission (not nothing, just less) if a customer converts through a brands paid retargeting campaign?
