Your Style Problems, Solved: "My Shoes Are Too Big!"

Reader Patricia recently emailed me to say, "HELP!! I've lost a bit of weight and apparently it has affected my feet! All my gorgeous heels are big for my feet now, and my heels keep slipping out! I can't afford to buy a whole new set of shoes, and I love all my heel too much to part with them. Is there anything I can do to help keep my feet from slipping out?"

And while it's a bummer about all of your gorgeous shoes, there are definitely a few things you can do to make them easier to walk in. The first thing you need to do is fill the space at the front and back of your shoes where your feet used to be--my favorite way to do that is with Dr. Scholl's for Her Ball of Foot Cushions ($7.49 at drugstore.com), which go directly under the ball of your foot (not just a clever name!) and will not only jack you up a few millimeters, but will make your shoes much easier to walk in for extended periods of time. In the back, fill the gap between your heel and the shoe with Dr. Scholl's Rub Relief Strips ($7.99 at drugstore.com), which come on a roll like Scotch tape but have a thick, cushiony feel like moleskin. Take a walk around your bedroom, feel out the exact spot where your heel is slipping out of your shoe, then stick a few inches of this stuff right there. If one piece doesn't do the trick, layer one on top of another until your heel rests comfortably against the strips.

If you're still suffering from major slippage, the next best step would be to get a full insole to put inside of your shoes. Foot Petals makes a great version called Sexy Soles ($18.95 at footpetals.com) that can be trimmed to fit inside any shoe--even your strappiest stiletto.
