Al Sacco’s Post

I'm increasingly grateful for my network of friends and colleagues on LinkedIn and elsewhere, many of whom I probably wouldn't have connected with as recently if I hadn't started a new job search and posted more on social. Sometimes it's easy to forget how many wonderful folks I've called coworkers through the years. If we spoke, messaged, or you wrote me a recommendation during the past couple of weeks, thank YOU, again. I appreciate each of you. I'm told something like 75 percent or more of job seekers find their next roles through people they know, or through simple networking. On this note, I think the best piece of employment advice I've heard recently was simply: 'Network, network, network. Maybe grab a drink. Then network more.' I also want to ask all of you intelligent humans about the best piece of job-hunting advice you've received. So, consider yourself asked. Please.

Best job hunting advice? Be kind to other people as a matter of course. You never NEVER know where the next gig is coming from. People are anxious to flow kindness to people who previously went out of their way to help them. (You've got this one taken care of, Al. You've always been a sweetie.) Specific resume advice I was told years ago: The job of the resume is to get you an interview, not to get you the job. Use it to convince people that they want to talk with you to learn more. Focus on accomplishments, ideally with numbers. (Grew site traffic by 82% etc.)

Hey Al! Check out the book, What Color is Your Parachute, if you have not already.

Don't hesitate to reach out directly to someone who runs in the same circles as you, even if you don't know them on a personal level yet. I did this when I reached out to you about a job at CIO.com 10 years ago and it made all the difference in my career.

Apply to every job you can, go in with confidence, know that you might not have the best experience but that you might still be the best person for the job. Hope you land on your feet soon. You're an incredible manager

Al Sacco I'd say to be authentic and be yourself when interviewing! Don't act how the company or interviewer wants you to act. Wishing you a great next job. I only wish I had one here for you at my place. Keep me in mind if you ever need anything.
