Your wedding beauty timeline is just as important as your actual wedding timeline. Having a solid wedding beauty plan that's set well before the wedding gives you time to adequately prepare your hair, skin, teeth and more for the big day. Obviously, all of the items on this timeline are optional—there's no rule that you have to get your teeth whitened or a facial before your wedding. Pick and choose what works for you. Here's a wedding beauty timeline of what to do when.

6 Months Before Wedding

  • Start a vitamin regimen, complete with supplements that support health, collagen production, shiny hair and strong nails.
  • Make a fitness plan with exercise you enjoy — whether it's yoga, running, weightlifting, dance, swimming or anything else, commit to a plan that incorporates endorphin-boosting exercise that will keep you healthy and reduce stress amidst all the wedding planning!
  • If you're going to try a new hair color or get highlights, now's the time to experiment. You'll have plenty of time to test out the color, see if you like it and switch it back if need be.
  • See your dermatologist and start a solid skincare regimen, which might include monthly peels or facials, depending on your skin needs. With enough time, your dermatologist can help you combat any issue, including acne, back acne, rosacea, etc.
  • If you're considering any kind of laser hair removal, you'll need to start now, given that you'll need about six sessions per treatment area and you need at 2-4 weeks between sessions.
  • Drink plenty of water, every day from now until the big day. Water is key for nail health, glowing skin and strong hair.

3 Months Before

  • Do your wedding hair and makeup trials. Pro tip: if you can, schedule your trials on a day you have another wedding event, like your bridal shower or bachelorette party. Then you can really test out your glam! You can also move this task to earlier in your wedding beauty timeline to make it coincide with your engagement shoot, as well. Whenever you schedule it, just know that it might take more than one trial, so just make sure to start this process at least two months before the wedding. Once you've found "the one," book your beauty team and set up appointments for your entire wedding party.
  • Now is also the time to start experiment with self tanners and/or spray tans if you want a faux glow on your wedding day. This also involves a bit of trial and error to find out which spray tanner or salon will give you your desired result.
  • Get your brows professionally shaped; you'll have time to grow them out in spots if needed.
  • Start an at-home teeth-whitening routine.

1 Month Before Wedding

  • If you're not using a makeup artist, experiment with and buy wedding makeup now, so you have time to do a few trial runs on your own.
  • Start regularly applying self tanner to build up a good base of even color.
  • Do not add any new products to your beauty routine. It's not a good idea to try anything new because a new product could cause irritation or a breakout — don't risk it this close to the big day!

2 Weeks Before Wedding

  • Cut/trim your hair — this'll allow time for your hair to "settle" while still looking fresh.
  • Touch up your hair color.
  • Think about/choose what nail color you'll wear. You should buy your own bottle in case the salon you'll go to doesn't have it in stock — plus, you can then throw your nail polish in your emergency wedding bag in case you need any touch ups.
  • Continue practicing doing your own hair/makeup if you're not using professionals.

1 Week Before Wedding

  • Get a professional teeth whitening if you're interested in that. This shouldn't be done any closer to the wedding day in case you experience sensitivity.
  • Get your final facial or chemical peel (but only if you've been doing so regularly and you know will not cause irritation).
  • Get your brows professionally waxed or threaded. You can do this as close as two days before the wedding, but avoid doing it the night before because there's always potential for redness.
  • Do a deep-conditioning treatment for softer, shinier hair, or do a salon gloss.
  • Now is a good time to get any waxing done, to avoid irritation at the last minute.
  • Execute your pre-tested spray-tan plan three days before the wedding. This will give you a buffer day to fix it in case something goes wrong. Whatever you do, don't spray tan the morning of the wedding because most involve bronzer that can rub off on your dress.
