Full, supple lips are having a moment. Everyone from Tana Mongeau to Kylie Jenner have made headlines for their prominent pouts, and you can’t open TikTok without seeing lip-plumping videos. The influx of influencers rocking thicc lips has many hopping on Google to find out how to make lips bigger. While some celebs opt for lip fillers on the reg, there are less invasive and expensive options that can transform your lips — and the best part is you probably have everything you need in your makeup collection. Heavily contoured and over-lined lips (shout out to the Kar-Jenners for innovating) are popular ways to enhance your pout, but there are other hacks, too.

Double Board Certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jaimie DeRosa, lead facial plastic surgeon of DeRosa Center Plastic Surgery & Med Spa in Boston, Massachusetts, and Palm Beach, Florida, shares the best ways to make lips bigger with non-permanent hacks that will level up your lips in no time.

1. Exfoliate

This is step number one, and it's so important. Before you try any other hacks, exfoliate your lips first. Flaky lips reflect less light, which means a dry pucker could be making your lips look smaller than they actually are. "Your lips will look healthier," Dr. DeRosa, who swears by the Sara Happ Lip Scrub, says.

2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Have you ever noticed that when you forget your Hydro Flask at home, your lips look really freaking small by the end of the day? That's because they're dehydrated. "When your body is dehydrated, your lips literally shrivel up and disappear," Dr. DeRosa says. Along with drinking lots of water, Dr. DeRosa suggests incorporating additional hydration with humectants like hyaluronic acid and glycerin to nourish the lips. The extra moisture helps "increase the amount of water in your lips." Along with hydrating, these moisturizing properties act as humectants "which helps to soften and strengthen the outer layer of the skin," and as an "occlusive, "which seal the hydration in," Dr. DeRosa advises.

3. Over-line your lips

Before Kylie Jenner surgically enhanced her lips, she used to use this trick to make them appear bigger.

Even though this makeup trick is a beauty vlogger favorite, it's really easy to do yourself. The trick is to put on concealer before your lip color to blur the line between your lips and your face. This makeup trick is a beauty vlogger favorite, and it's actually really easy to do yourself. Apply your go-to concealer to your lips, then trace slightly outside your natural lip line using a lip liner. From there, just fill in your lips with the matching lipstick, or just use the liner for your whole pout.

4. Highlight with gloss

This two-second trick will help draw attention to your lips. Grab your favorite clear lip gloss or pick a shade that matches your lipstick color, then apply a dab of the gloss onto the middle of both of your lips. The shimmery product picks up light, making your pout look fuller.

5. Try a plumping treatment or a lip plumping gloss

Lip plumping treatments are a fan-favorite option that provides great results. Dr. DeRosa recommends steering clear of treatments that enhance lips by "increasing inflammation to create extra blood flow to the lips" because "they can dry out lips in the long rung" due to the addition of ingredients like "cinnamon, ginger, chili flaxes/capsaicin, peppermint, and menthol."

Instead, Dr. DeRosa suggests plumping treatments that "increase immediate hydration and promote collagen production." Peptides are a good option. "Palmitoyl tripeptides are chains of amino acids that make up collagen. Using peptides on the lips can help to produce more collagen in the lips," she says. Grande Lips, Dr. Dennis Gross, Buxom, and Lawless all make great options.

6. Double up on nude lip colors

Looking for bigger lips? What you really need is dimension, sis. Layering color amps up your pout easily. Here's how: Apply one shade all over your mouth, then top it with a slightly lighter color (or even a white lip crayon) in the middle of your lips and then blend.

Along with making your lips look bigger, it'll help even out your lips. If you have a fuller top lip and a smaller bottom lip (or vice versa), try only applying the lighter shade to the smallest lip.

7. Line with concealer after lipstick

Ever wonder how influencers get that FaceTune-perfect lipstick line? Well, partly from FaceTune, but it's mostly thanks to this concealer hack. Yes, you should be applying concealer before and after your lipstick. Use a skinny brush and a teeny tiny bit of cover-up to line the outside of your already over-lined lips. You won't believe how much your lipstick will pop.

8. Don't skip the lip balm

Your lips are delicate, so they need to be hydrated inside and out. Drink your water (see point 2), and then swipe on a lip balm that will soften your lips. Healthy lips will reach their fullest potential.

9. Add a contour shade under your bottom lip

This hack is a hidden gem among the beauty community, and with good reason. It's super simple and quick to do!

After you've applied all your lip products, take a powder contour shade on a small fluffy brush and run it under your bottom lip. This will cast a slight shadow under your lips and make them look poutier. Pro Tip: tap into your contour shade lightly — you can always add more later if you need to!

10. Use a lip mask

Lip masks are a fun, quick way to give your pout a perfect plump. Masks "that target and treat dry, flakey lips to get them more hydrated and healthier will result in fuller-appearing lips, " Dr. DeRosa says. Some are designed like sheet masks — these are meant to be placed directly on your lips for a few minutes so the collagen (and other beneficial ingredients) can sink into them. If you're not into the idea of placing a gel mask on your lips, you can opt for an overnight mask that applies like a lip balm.
