I wanted to love this phone, it had ticked all the boxes until the screen got scratched by regular use, you know, just taking it in and out of my pocket. Turns out the screen is too soft and it requires a screen protector to not damage it.

After 3 years with the LG flagship LG G6+, that cost me a lot of money and was stuck on the Android 8 version (because of US Cellular), I decided to try a high mid-range phone. After reading some reviews, I decided to abandon LG and go to Google Pixel 5A.

And what I can tell you is that I am more than happy with this phone.
1st of all the fingerprint reader works way better than the LG G6+ ( this one stopped working after a few days).
Regarding autonomy, it's been a while since I found myself in a situation where I no longer had to worry about recharging my phone for a whole day.

And finally, for the price, the performance and general experience far exceed that of the LG G6.

Verdict, no need to buy a flagship to have a very good phone

TL;DR: A good phone that sadly crapped the bed 6 months after I bought it, and now I'm having to jump through hoops to get another one. And apparently this model is known for doing this. Don't buy from Mercate group unless you like being ghosted.

The camera is, of course, great as that's one of the things Pixels really do well. Calls we clear, features were good, phone ran fine. Not the fanciest, but for the money it was good.

Then about 6 months in I was watching TikTok one night (clearly not something that should have caused undo stress) and the screen froze. I turned it off and it never turned back on. I'd get a super brief vibration, but the screen was totally black. Tapping the power button a bunch of times produced some kind of alarm noise, and the next morning the alarms I had set went off, but not with the sounds I'd picked. Instead it was a sort of terrible clanking and the only way to get it to stop was holding the power and Vol down buttons.

I looked it up and apparently this is something that the 5a just does. Search for Pixel 5a and it comes right up, or search for black screen of death and you'll get a LOT of hits about this particular phone. It's a known issue apparently. There are lots of tips to try to get it working again, but none of them worked for me. Took it where Google told me and they said the motherboard was fried and I have to send it to Google, but they want a receipt with the serial number on it, which Amazon's invoice lacks. The seller took 2 days to respond and when they did all it said was to use the Amazon invoice which I can't. I'm looking at having to use my old phone for a couple weeks while Google tries to fix it or gives up and sends a new one, but that can't even begin until I get this receipt that doesn't exist.

It broke less than 2 months outside of the return window so now I have a $350 paper weight. It gets to the "Google" screen and then just shuts off. It spent most of its life on my desk (I work remotely), I never put it in a harsh environment and I never got water on it. Removing the case and removing the screen protector got it a little further in the boot process but it still just shuts off after the "Google" screen. I also made sure it was fully charged, performed a factory reset, tried a bunch of YT rememdies but it remains broke AF. Looking for a replacement now. Total hassle.

Resisted replacing my phone because the process of migration and learning the new set up was more than I wanted to deal with at the moment. I was actually forced to after my digital buddy's face shattered. This turned out to be a good thing when I got this great replacement. True only 5 g but that'll be good for a few years and that seems to be my timing for the next replacement. I love the simplicity of the layout and the hidden menu of apps. I would definitely buy this great lil phone again.

Would like to start with seller experience. I bought from 'deals of you'. Got brand new factory sealed mobile and he promised to provide seller warranty for 1 year in case of any unexpected repairs. Pixel5a is a nice mobile to buy now and take advantage of Google updates for atleast next 2 years. Battery life is too good and fast charging is not bad either. UI, navigation and apps are working butter smooth. I'm not into gaming so not sure about performance. Camera is just wonderful! Other aspects of phone are also beyond my expectations 😁😁 Once again huge thanks to amazon and the seller. Cheers!

    Edit:
Unfortunately the phone stopped working in 2 months and the seller stopped responding to my calls/messages. So in short please don't buy other country mobiles and avoid this seller 🙏
