About the Author

Ray Dorsey is the David M. Levy Professor of Neurology at the University of Rochester, where he directs the Center for Health + Technology. For the past decade, he has pioneered technology to care for individuals with and measure the features of Parkinson's disease. His research has been published in the leading neurology, medical, and economic journals and been featured on NPR and in The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Previously, Ray directed the Parkinson's disease division at Johns Hopkins Medicine and consulted for McKinsey & Company.

Todd Sherer, PhD, is the Chief Executive Officer of The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the largest nonprofit funder of Parkinson's research. Trained as a neuroscientist, he is responsible for the Foundation's overall scientific and fundraising direction to speed treatment breakthroughs and a cure for Parkinson's disease. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Emory University investigating the role of environmental factors in Parkinson's, Todd joined the Foundation's staff in 2004 and was named Chief Executive Officer in 2011.

Michael S. Okun is the Chair and the Adelaide Lackner Professor of Neurology at the University of Florida. Michael is one of the world's leading Parkinson's disease researchers who has advanced surgical treatments. Michael is the National Medical Director of the Parkinson's Foundation, the country's largest Parkinson's disease patient and advocacy group. Michael is a prolific writer with over 500 publications and the author of the book, Parkinson's Treatment: 10 Secrets to a Better Life, that has been translated into 20 languages and is a bestseller for patients and families.

Bastiaan Bloem is a Professor of Neurology and the Medical Director at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Centre in the Netherlands. In 2004, with Dr. Marten Munneke, Bas created ParkinsonNet, the largest integrated care program for Parkinson's patients. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Parkinson's Disease, and has been a featured speaker at leading patient, academic, and health conferences globally.

1817 Dr. James Parkinson published "An Essay on the Shaking Palsy". Fifteen years later Dr. Jean-Martin Charcot a famous French Neurologist called the disease Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease comes from environmental exposures.
Pesticides and Chemicals that are linked to the cause of Parkinson's disease.
1. Paraquat - a weed killer, pesticide,
2. Maneb - a pesticide.
3. Trichloroethylene TCE - used as a cleaning solution for rocket engines to cleaning carpets, to degreasing metal, to being used as a spot cleaning agent in dry cleaning.
4. Perchoroethylene PCE - A solvent used by dry cleaners.
5. Chlorpyrifos - a nerve toxin, that is the most widely used insecticide in the country. This pesticide is also use on broccoli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, cranberry, soybeans, almonds, cotton, grapes, oranges, walnuts, alfalfa, Washington State apples, and on golf courses, lawns, utility Poles, wood fences.

Our assignment - is to form a PACT to end Parkinson's disease.
P-Prevent the disease in the first place.
A-Advocate for resources and policies.
C-Care for Everyone affected.
T-Treat the condition with new and more effective therapies.
We need all pesticides linked to Parkinson's disease banned: the strongest of which is Paraquat. Also Maneb.
We can no longer remain ignorant, we must fight the use of these pesticides that contributes to diseases such as parkinson's, autism, lung disease and various cancers.

Just as these environmental contaminates can worsen our health and cause diseases including Parkinson's disease. Cleaning up the contaminates can have the reverse effect, preventing diseases and improving all of our lives. Let's get ready to fight!!!

The odds of a person developing Parkinson’s disease over a lifetime are 1 in 15. It is the fastest growing neurodegenerative disease and is overtaking Alzheimer’s for the top spot.

Most of us have a family member or friend with Parkinson’s disease. If so, you are no doubt aware it is a chronic neurological disorder with limited treatment, no cure and a significant burden for the person afflicted and those around them. In this book the authors have alerted us to its enormous societal costs and increasing frequency. The message could be depressing, but in fact the author’s present an uplifting message of hope for a preventive strategy that could possibly turn the tide of the tsunami of cases they predict is coming. And they do it in a very readable, engaging manner with stories about the clues to its cause that start with the Spanish flu epidemic 100 years ago, mistakes by addicts, and epidemiological studies that when linked together suggest a possible cause. They believe that Parkinson’s disease is a disorder created by modern society and our decisions about polluting our environment with pesticides. The linkage is an intriguing idea that will require more study. However, irrespective of the final outcome, we have clearly polluted our environment and should improve our stewardship of it. This book is uplifting because it provides a roadmap for actions that society can take and a rationale for doing so in a readable and enjoyable dialogue that ends with hope and actions we can all take.
