How can I teach my child to swallow a pill?

Some children as young as age 3 or 4 can swallow a pill, while some teenagers still can't accomplish the task!

When your child is ready to try, have him practice with something small and hard-coated, like Tic Tac breath mints. Here's how: With a mouthful of water, have your child look up at the ceiling. Then put the mint in through the corner of his mouth. While he's looking up, have him swallow the water with a big gulp. The mint — like a real pill — is dense and will go down first, having sunk to the back of his mouth.

With capsules (which float), you do just the opposite: Have your child look down at the floor instead of up at the ceiling while you slip the capsule into his mouth. Have him swallow while still looking at the floor. The capsule should float to the back of his mouth and roll down his throat with the water.
