About the Author

Fr. John Riccardo is the executive director of ACTS XXIX, a ministry dedicated to unleashing the power of the gospel and equipping men and women for mission. In 2019, after twenty-three years in parish ministry, he founded ACTS XXIX to proclaim the gospel in an attractive and compelling way and to equip clergy and lay leaders.

From the Introduction:

In his second letter to his friend Timothy, St. Paul writes, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (3:16-17, emphasis mine). . . . Paul is conveying to Timothy the truth that God’s revealed Word is helpful in bending back into rightful position things that have been bent or distorted.

For many of us, what’s “bent” is our hope. . . . Thinking, then, about that passage on the Word of God from Paul, we could perhaps see Scripture as something like a splint put on an injured body part to help it heal. I’d like to propose ten “splints” that can help us whose hope has been bent or distorted. These passages have been immensely helpful for me, and I pray they will be for you too.

FR. JOHN RICCARDO, missionary and ACTS XXIX Executive Director. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Detroit in 1996. In 2019, after 23 years in parish ministry, he founded Acts XXIX to proclaim the gospel in an attractive and compelling way and to equip clergy and lay leaders for the age in which God has chosen us to live. Fr. John is a graduate of the University of Michigan, the Gregorian University, and the Pope John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family.

I love this book. The author has a uniquely lyrical style of expression through which he conveys his original interpretations of God and theology with fluid grace. The perspectives within broaden my horizons and stretch my mind. I often consider and apply the author's musings throughout my day. In all facets of life, I seek to learn and grow, especially in the arenas of spirit and mind; reading the book was well worth my scarce time. Fear, worry and despair are some of the fiercest antagonists of an abundant human life--an enjoyable life that truly is worth living. Riccardo shares vantage-elevating meditations that help one to reclaim personal autonomy to live in reliable serenity and subordinate intrusive mental clamor that would rob us of our priceless well-being. The work has further informed my quest to subdue all in my life that would compromise inner peace and/or intimacy with God.
