That's pretty crazy. Torii Hunter hinted way back in August about Prince going through some things in his life, but it didn't seem like something this crazy.

A month ago, Denny McClain also hinted at something crazy in Prince's life that involved a top prospect who wound up in Chicago.

Honestly, I believe this story.

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You know it is big when a gambling ex-pitcher says it is crazy. Sorry, but Denny hasn't really been in the news for himself. Wow.

    [–]New York Metsjflewis4 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Yeah that's what they first said about Jose Canseco too, and he ended up being right.

    [–]whateverthefuck666 12 points13 points  (2 children)

To be fair, Canseco is still not a reliable source and is still a turd, but he was right.

    [–]New York Metsjflewis4 1 point2 points  (1 child)

well he may be a turd.

But if you are proven to be right, you effectively become more reliable.

    [–]whateverthefuck666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but if he told me it was raining in the middle of a hurricane I'd still hold my hand out to make sure.

    [–]Detroit Tigersdanglehoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much? You're just being nice because it's Christmas. He's a turd, plain and simple.

    [–]Detroit Tigersmskeepa19[S] 8 points9 points  (21 children)

Honestly, the way the author put it, it makes a lot of sense with the reasons things happened this season. I'm not sure if its true or not but nobody has given any evidence so far that its not true.

    [–]Seattle Marinersabsolutsyd 55 points56 points  (5 children)

Pretty sure someone would actually need evidence that it is true, not the other way around.

    [–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Guilty until proven innocent...... or something like that

    [–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (4 children)

"It makes a lot of sense," because that's the way these stories always pop up. After a big unexpected trade or loss of a player.

I think it's happened in every sport here in Philly. Jeff Carter gets traded to the Blue Jackets? He was banging Scott Hartnell's wife. Phillies not re-signing Jayson Werth? He must be screwing Jen Utley.

There's a good chance whoever started this rumor just worked backwards from the big trades and that's why it seems practical.

Also, the Fielder trade doesn't fit into this story at all. If everyone was originally on his side, why did they need to trade Fielder for clubhouse reasons? He already divorced his wife, I don't think they're honestly worried about her sleeping with more Tigers players and causing problems. It was just a move to get out of a big salary commitment.

    [–]Detroit TigersShakeItTilItPees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also worth noting that this rumor started before the Fielder trade even happened and before Cabrera injured his groin. The people spreading it are just relating any new event to it that they can to make it sound legitimate.

    [–]Atlanta Bravesthehighground 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Have you never been fucked over by a GF/wife? I still refuse to drive to parts of my own state since I dated a cunt who lived near that area and it fills me with hate.

And that was over 15 years ago, to this day I still hate that bitch.

[–]Hasta Biebista, Babythedeejus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it was less about getting rid of Prince Fielder and more about getting rid of Mrs. Fielder

    [–]Milwaukee Brewersextra_less 11 points12 points  (7 children)

    Or that its true

    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

What, you want a forensics team to uncover a discarded condom? The best you're gonna get is player testimonials.

    [–]Detroit TigersShakeItTilItPees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But there have been no player testimonials. There has only been a fake Wikipedia edit and the word of Denny McClaim that started this rumor. Any evidence other than that doesn't exist.

Edit: Interesting typo, I'll leave it.

    [–]Detroit TigersOoftyman 1 point2 points  (4 children)

It worked for Jameis Winston and the cum-soaked panties (though he was still innocent).

[–]New York Metsgynoceros 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Innocent and not guilty of a charge aren't the same thing.

Why did Fielder tweet the picture with his wife and kids in Texas then?

    Not saying this didn't happen.

Couple of different sources lead me to believe there was something going on. They could very well have reconciled.

    [–]Chicago Cubsrocknallknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had been hearing the rumblings of this too. Its not like they couldn't have reconciled or could just be putting on appearances. The article just made it seem like they wanted to have nothing to do with each other.

    [–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They might be doing it for the kids, who knows?

You'd think if you were gonna fuck up an entire team clubhouse, the woman would at least be hot...

You think Monica Lewinsky was the only piece of ass Bill Clinton coulda gotten/did get?

Not sure why this comment is relevant but I love it.

[–]Boston Red Soxyangar 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Because he's insinuating that that woman wasn't "hot enough" to cheat on/ruin the team for.

Please. Affairs don't work like that at all.

    [–]New York Metsjflewis4 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Yea, it's almost like I was making a joke or something...

    [–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (9 children)

    deeply cultural

What does this even mean? What distinct culture did Prince Fielder grow up in, other than being a little richer than most of us?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think he's saying she's a fly honey in the ghetto.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which I don't understand because Fielder is obviously the son of a very famous, rich man.

Come on dude. BELIEVE IN SOMETHING

      [–]Philadelphia Philliesnom_yourmom 62 points63 points  (6 children)

Ok I have a theory so crazy it just might be true:

      From Garcia's Wikipedia page:

He is noted for his resemblance to former teammate Miguel Cabrera, earning him the nickname "Mini Miggy".

With that in mind, here's what really went down:

      • Fielder catches his wife sleeping with Miguel Cabrera, but mistakes him for Garcia, as it was dark and Fielder was drunk.

      • Cabrera allows Garcia to take the fall for the affair. To keep from looking suspicious, he goes as far as to instigate the clubhouse fight, during which he unfortunately re-injures himself.

      • Cabrera comes clean to Tigers management, with the reasoning that he is much more valuable to the team than Garcia. On Cabrera's request, Garcia is traded to Chicago.

      • With Fielder satisfied that his wife's lover is no longer around, he no longer suspects continued infidelity. Meanwhile, Cabrera continues to sleep with Fielder's wife.

      • In the off-season, Fielder again catches his wife with Cabrera. He realizes that the lover was Cabrera all along, and Cabrera's loyalty to him was a falsehood. Hurt and betrayed by his teammate and his wife, he demands a trade.

      Fin

This isn't really breaking, as it has been being rumored sporadically in the Tigers fandom since Garcia was traded, most notably by the attention-grabbing asshole known as Denny McClain. That Te'o thing was so crazy that it needed to be covered. Players and their spouses cheating on each other? That's like reporting the sun rose.

Well, the media reported the hell out of it when that British soccer player cheated with his teammate's wife. I'll find an article in a bit.

EDIT: Found it. This was also talked about on ESPN, sports talk radio, etc for a few days. So people's wives cheating gets reported on by major news outlets

That's another pretty extreme case, with Giggs cheating on his own brother's wife for years, spanning from before their marriage to during their marriage. Giggs was also a Manchester United legend.

Why not? This is the kind of shit the media loves. I would assume that something this heavily rumored would be reported somewhere other than small blogs by fledgling sports writers if it had validity.

That was only reported because of how it all started, with Tiger being injured in a car accident. The real story then came out and they couldn't really ignore it.

I disagree. If ESPN had a reliable source, they would run with this like crazy. It is as scumbag as you get, but people would eat this story up and boost ratings. As much as I hate to admit, this story is intriguing. Don't really buy the whole story though, may have some half truths.

The source of "I know a guy who knows some people who say" sounds totally legit. Even if this is true, baseball rumors shouldn't stoop to the levels of TMZ for alleged scoops, which HAVE TO justify his terrible preformance.

                [–]Toronto Blue Jaysdr-million 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t care enough to look into it, but apparently Fielder said there was still sour grapes at least on his end for him being traded from the Tigers. He wasn’t completely over it and was bothered by it because he thinks it was for the wrong reasons. Here’s his introductory presser with the Tigers that I don’t care enough to read body language in right now.

Yeah, um, that doesn't exactly scream "credible." You're going to throw some heavy shit like this out there, make some other implicit claims, but can't be asked to actually do some research of your own to make sure they're not baseless?

Guy literally can't even confirm whether or not Prince said something that should supposedly be in the public realm. Hope he doesn't quit that day job he was talking about.

Edit: And I'm not necessarily saying this is bullshit. But this wreaks of someone just putting something out there half-heartedly just so he can say "I had it out there first."

Not that it adds to the credibility of the story, and I'm late to the thread, but this was pretty much the rumor going around back in August/September in the Detroit area. The Garcia trade was really unexpected to the fans here and this rumor propagated itself pretty quickly.

                [–]xxxtheaterjanitor 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Guys, guys, according to Wikipedia: "...the Tigers front office found out that the douche slept with Tigers teammate Prince Fielder's wife."

                So, it's confirmed.

                [–]Oakland Athleticsbherdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all knew that Fielder slept with his wife. His kids look just like him. What about the other guy?

                [–]Detroit TigersAlxxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just happened to happen after jhonny was getting the boot and the trade deadline was right around the corner

[–]Hasta Biebista, Babythedeejus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened with the Indians in 1996, either Jose Mesa or Carlos Baerga banged the other's wife and they had to get rid of one of them, so that's why they traded Baerga that summer.

                [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am from Detroit and this rumor has been going around since at least August with very similar details.

                [–]Detroit Tigersfantasyfest 3 points4 points  (3 children)

Fielder and wife are working on reconciliation. The rest i heard long ago. Garcia was our best prospect.

                [–]Detroit Tigerswjg10 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Garcia was rated behind Nick C.

                [–]Detroit Tigersfantasyfest 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Not in the same position. castellanos was a 3rd baseman. Garcia outfielder. The Tigers were forcing Nick to the outfield because he would have trouble taking Cabrera'd job from him.

                [–]Detroit Tigerswjg10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but as far as prospect ranks go Castellanos has always been higher.

                [–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This might be true but it's such a terrible source.

                [–]Detroit Tigersbkn6136 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Do people actually believe this? You do realize there's video of Cabrera re-injuring himself, on the field.

                [–]rkimble03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very reliable source, an employee in the Detroit Tigers clubhouse, who has confirmed this did happen. I also know a prominent sports radio broadcaster from Detroit who has also confirmed through multiple personnel in the organization that it was indeed the case with the three.

just... 98... more... days... till we can talk about actual baseball rather than babe ruth's dick and prince fielder's whore wife...

well that's just opening day. There will be spring training stuff to talk about before that... Hopefully

Ugh, I hate this type of gossipy, perez hilton type of junk. Even if it's true, who cares? This isn't real housewives of Baseball. Send it to one of those scummy blogs that say every NBA player is gay, they'll like it.

And I guarantee this rumor is true. It’s out there in the Michigan area somehow. People don’t spread things this weird, at least not the people who spread it to me.

Ohhh ok he/she guarantee's it, nevermind it's totally legit...

                [–]Milwaukee Brewersextra_less 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A guaranteed rumor is the same thing as a definite maybe.

                [–][deleted] 76 points77 points  (51 children)

This impacted the game on the field for Miggy, Garcia, and Fielder. It could ripples though the baseball world for, surprisingly, a long time.

                [–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Also sports are supposed to be entertainment and this is entertainment.

Yo, on the other hand, I would definitely watch real housewives of baseball in the offseason. I miss baseball.

[–]San Diego PadresTheFake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They will guarantee it but "don’t care enough to look into it." This is the kind of stuff that gives online journalism and blogs bad names.

[–]New York Metscoolwithstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally agree with you, people's personal affairs are their own business. I would even agree that this shouldn't have gotten out. But I do think there are people who appreciate this information, Texas fans for one might feel encouraged that Prince has put this tumultuous time behind him and savvy fantasy baseball player might expect a resurgence.

                [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the thing is in this case, if it's true, it's directly affecting the rosters of at least two things, so it's definitely game-related.

                [–]Oakland AthleticsHelloThereCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than just a dumb scandal though. If this is true, which I actually think it is, it caused one fairly big trade and one really big one. It had a pretty significant affect on the game.

                [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all rumor and not "huge" news.

These rumors are very old, I for one believe it. The relationship between Big Mig and Lil' Mig was so close it would have taken something like this for us to dump our best OF prospect, one who performed well in the playoffs no less.

If this is true, that is amazing. Wow. And the team still went to the ALCS. I kind of hope Fielder bounces back now. Even on the Rangers.

I don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, Boston and the Red Sox would like to thank you Avisail Garcia, for both bringing forth the Golden Age of Xander and for fucking up the one team that should have beaten the Sox in the playoffs.

Holy fuck the rumors are true!

                [–]Detroit Tigersirlkg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old circulating rumor, I still have a really hard time believing it.

Maybe if the trade with Garcia didn't make sense, the problem is it makes perfect sense. Tigers at the time thought Castellanos was moving to the outfield, and he's a far better prospect than Garcia, and they knew SS was going to be an empty hole with Peralta, so they traded the OF prospect for the SS prospect.

That and the fact Miggy tweeted a lot about Garcia leaving, like in a positive manner. Not as much as when Prince left (that was fucking sad as hell) but I still have a realllyyyyyy hard time believing it. The fact these rumors are a couple months old make me be believe it even less.
