I'm feeling very emotional and exceptionally proud today. When I started working at Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia in 1993, I had a fortnightly radio broadcast at 11.15 pm-11.45 pm on Wednesday nights - it was half an hour in the the middle of the week, very close to midnight and I often wondered if anyone was listening! That's why I'm almost teary-eyed today, as we announce the launch of SBS South Asian and SBS Spice..... SBS South Asian will be the 24/7 destination channel for around 1.5 million Australians of South Asian heritage - live on air, you'll hear 10 language programs between 11am-6pm everyday, and your favourite music at all other times. It also has a YouTube channel (@SBSSouthAsian), Facebook page, and all 10 language teams (Bangla, Gujarati, Hindi, Malayalam, Nepali, Punjabi, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu) have their own bilingual websites and Facebook pages. SBS Spice is our brand new offering to young Australian South Asians - bringing insightful, trendy and fun topics alive on Instagram (@SBSSpice), YouTube, Facebook and their website. I feel exceptionally honoured to be the Program Manager for all of these teams who produce excellent content in-language and in English - please make sure you follow our content on all these platforms and keep sending us your feedback!!!! For now, its time to celebrate with everyone involved with this historic launch, especially with our audiences so we can reach you wherever you are and whenever you want... Congratulations to everyone!!
