The user-friendly OXO Good Grips Food Scale with Pull-Out Display is ideal for weighing ingredients --baking essentials, meat, produce, herbs, spices and more. The easy-to-read digital display features large numbers and measures in 1/8-ounce (US) and 1-gram (metric) increments for exceptional accuracy. Best Scale I've Ever Had
I bought this scale years ago, but I still use it EVERY day. Still the best scale of all that I've encountered. I previously owned a Salter-made one was totally inaccurate and have used a bunch of other scales in friends' kitchens, all of which were either thoughtlessly considered or were inaccurate as well. This OXO scale is accurate up to about 2 grams—sometimes it oscillates between grams, but it shouldn't be that big of a deal unless you're like, measuring out precious stones or something. I usually calibrate and check the scale using my husband's ring, which is 8 grams according to the jewelry store we bought it from, to check that the scale is still accurate. To this date, the scale still reads the ring as being 8 grams.Love the pull-out option of this scale should you place a larger mixing bowl atop it. The lighting option is also wonderful, but I've probably used it once or twice in all these years I've had this scale. If you leave something on it for a long time, the scale will turn off, but if you turn it back on, it'll still display the weight that was last recorded. DO NOTE that, if you add additional weight while it's off, it won't document that weight. I've run into the problem of putting extra weight onto the scale RIGHT as it turned off, knocking off the original measurement. I found the best way to keep the scale on while you're waiting to add more weight to it is to press between the unit of measurement.I'm attaching pics of my scale of many years of daily use. Still looks great, despite the superficial scratches on the stainless-steel surface. I'm not bothered by it.

This is a perfectly constructed kitchen scale that is a powerhouse in the kitchen. I started measuring for baking when I bought the King Arthur Whole Grains Cookbook (amazing, by the way), and they recommended it, and also list weights next to all of their recipes. It is a heck of a lot more accurate than measuring, and it also creates a lot less dishes as you don't have to use measuring cups (I still use measuring spoons). This one works well. It is super easy to wipe off; despite my daily use, it remains clean and new looking. It is very easy to read with large numbers. It seems to be accurate and it measures down to 1/8 of an ounce which is often necessary. It has a nice night light that I use on occasion. The screen pulls out to be read at any angle or underneath any size bowl if necessary. It has occasionally turned itself off automatically and NOT gone back to what it previously measured, which was annoying, but that hasn't happened recently.

If you aren't measuring things now, and don't have a cookbook that lists measurements, it might be a bit of work to look all of that up online and make a chart of how much flour, butter, sugar, etc should weigh, but I plan on doing that eventually with all of my cookbooks so that I can just measure everything.

Customer service is also amazing; Oxo has always had amazing customer service, but this was the first item I had problems with that was rather expensive. After several years, the power button was really difficult to operate, and they just sent me a new scale. Highly recommended!

I got this scale through Amazon ten months ago, and have no real complaints whatsoever. Those who say the batteries don't last very long must be using the backlight frequently -- I use it only occasionally, and the original batteries are still working fine. ADDED: I've had this scale for two years now, using it at least once every day, and just now changed the batteries for the second time. I'm still VERY satisfied with this product.

I love the accuracy and reliability of this scale, and how easy it is to wipe clean. I love having the scale come up zero when I set an item on it before turning it on, so I can weigh only what I'm adding (and then re-zeroing it with the push of a button before I add the next ingredient). I really appreciate the ability to measure in either grams or pounds (with a nice resolution of 1 gram or 1/8 ounce). Tip: When I want to measure an obsessive-compulsive pound, I set the scale to grams and measure 454.

The scale is slim enough (and the original box is sturdy enough) that I can easily take it on trips. That slimness does make the scale so short that floppy items (such as long-leafed greens) tend to rest their ends on the countertop and ruin the measurement -- but all I have to do is set the scale on top of some stable object with a similar footprint (e.g., a large can) to make it taller.

I have only two suggestions to the manufacturer:

To make it easier to tell the difference between 1/8 and 7/8 ounce on the readout, please slide the numerals down just a little further from the slight overhang at the top edge of the display. A brief use of the backlight answers the question, but an easier-to-read display would save both time and batteries.

Also, please reset the automatic timeout whenever the reading changes -- in other words, don't turn off the scale while I'm still adding to it! The timeout takes long enough that it rarely occurs, but I would like to be able to add items slowly without fear of losing my starting "zero."

Alternate between ounces/pounds & Grams. Great for food especially if you're dieting or on a highly restricted diet. I keep track of a list of my favorite food portion weights + what the container weights. Turn on empty scale, tare weight, Place container on scale & mark down the weight of container. Once noted you'll never have to weigh that same container again. Then weigh & adjust amount of food item (portion size) two desired amount. Usually done in grams as much more accurate than ounces/pounds. Most nutrition data is found online as grams. Once portion & container weight is noted, then subsiquet servings go very quickly.

Saavy Suggestions: The scale stays on for a minute or longer so remember what you take an item off the scale just turn it off to save your battery. 5 months on the same battery & the battery gauge still read 100%. Don't forget there's a light on it to use it at night. Always press the Tare button and wait for the scale to get down to zero then place container or paper towel on the scale, then add the food for an accurate weight. Otherwise you will end up counting the container weight & not have an accurate measurement of only the weight of the food.

It was a very small price to pay for a very helpful item that speeds up total prep time when aaccurate portion control is required.

My others were cheap & had an annoying habit of turning themselves off half way through😤 These are well made and even have the handy pull out bit at the front so that you can easily weigh something very large & still see the display. Sebbene costi più delle normali bilance domestiche, questa bilancia da cucina si è rivelata praticamente perfetta. La mia vecchia bilancia si spegnava da sola dopo un paio di minuti, questa rimane accesa per almeno 6 minuti e solo questo vale il prezzo aggiuntivo. Chi cucina sa che spesso le pesature sono cumulative (nel senso pesi la farina, azzeri la tara, aggiungi lo zucchero, azzeri, aggiungi il burro etc etc, sempre durante la stessa pesatura) e se ti si spegne mentre sei nel mezzo della pesata...
Altre buone caratteristiche sono che è possibile accendere il display, pesa fino a 5 Kg (segnalando il sovrappeso), è possibile staccare il display ed allontanarlo di qualche centimetro (nel caso di contenitori ingombranti). la durata delle batterie è ottima (ancora mai cambiate da quando acquistata).
Unico difetto, per noi italiani, è che all'accensione la bilancia parte il libbre invece che in grammi e bisogna eseguire lo switch con l'apposito pulsante. Ma è un difetto che nulla toglie alla qualità dell'articolo.
La consiglio senza riserve.
