I went over some rough spots with fine-grit sandpaper right out of the box, then a good rinse, air dry, and a coat or two of food-safe mineral oil. They're sturdy and comfortable in the hand. What else can you say about wooden spoons? I use them all the time, though the spatula is my favorite as I wind up reaching for that one often for my enamel pans. Good, sturdy utensils that might be able to be passed along to the next generation with proper care. Anyone out there have one of their grandma's old wooden spoons? The Spaghetti Spoon. You know the one.

Anyway, you get six untreated hardwood utensils. I believe the wood is beech wood. No, not ocean beach...beech, not beach. :grin:

I was looking for a safe, non toxic, all natural and sustainable cooking utensil set not made in China and this was it!! I’m very please with this product. Plus, the customer service was great and they checked in to make sure my second order was satisfactory, which it was and that makes me a very happy, satisfied customer for sure!! and for the price, it’s a great deal!!

I read some complaints about the wood being too rough or unfinished. I wanted to be sure to place this review and say Thank You to those who made this product. It's not easy to find unfinished wood kitchenware. Most of it is contaminated with a petroleum product called mineral oil. Most people seem to have the deranged impression that because the FDA has approved mineral oil for food contact and called it food safe/food grade that it is. As somebody seeking a pure life especially in the kitchen I am in strong disagreement with the use of a petroleum derivative to oil a food-contact surface. I don't trust the FDA to make choices for my health and I know it is only up to me to make those choices.

The kitchen set is not rough. The implements are nicely sanded and are perfectly usable as they are. The beech wood is a great choice. If I feel so inclined to oil any of the pieces, I will use linseed oil. I would recommend these tools to any health-conscious individuals who care about living a pure life. Thank you Ecosall. I feel fortunate to have found this set. A great value and a fair price. Buy with confidence.

The price is reasonable and they seem to be made with quality material, and I'm sure they will be durable, but the manufacturing is subpar. The face of each piece is very rough. Even after treating them all with several rounds of mineral oil, they are still rough, which means it's easier for them to absorb and hold whatever food you are stirring, and they stain more easily. The drilled holes in the handles were also very sloppily done so there are spinters sticking out of all of them. At the end of the day it's not a big deal, but you could get a much more finished product for a little more $.

It does the job without the chemicals applied all over it. I like that the wood is not treated with no smell. For the first time my food doesn’t taste like the spatula I’m using during cooking. No warping, so splinters, and good quality goods. I highly recommend them.
