I wanted to love this masher, but alas, cannot. In fact, I am regretting having thrown my old conventional masher away.It's great as far as comfort, ergonomics, sturdiness, and quality of build and materials. It just wouldn't mash my refried beans to anything approaching smoothness. I am surmising that the oblong slots are too big. That's a pity as it would otherwise be quite wonderful.Also, the masher I received has 11 rows of slots (count them, go ahead and count them!) while the "OXO Good Grips Smooth Potato Masher" currently displayed on Amazon and shown as the one I purchased, has only 8. The dimensions given do not correspond either. I appear to have received the "OXO Good Grips Smooth Potato Masher ON STEROIDS" model. Weird. Not amounting to "I'm going to return this cursed thing" weird, just head-shaking weird.

Does a good job mashing, seems well-made and the handle-design is easier on the hands/wrists than others. I would not recommend using it in a non-stick pot/pan, as I'd worry it might scratch the non-stick coating.

Pleasure to use, saves time and it mashes beautifully. No chasing small pieces or worrying about texture. It actually textures really well. Something to also consider is that the shape espouses your round pot so it will mash all the way to the edge. If you have ever used wire type mashers you know what I mean. You don’t need to stop and stir the pot, you do that as you mash. Lastly, it’s easy to clean and is strong and durable. Mash away!

Prior to this I was using a pastry cutter or a fork, and the difference is night and day- this masher requires little effort and can handle a whole pot of potatoes quite quickly. Whenever I am tempted to save a few bucks and buy a product with a made up brand name like Mihetly or Tecwuh, I remind myself that "you get what you pay for" is not a tired old homily for no reason.
With Oxo, I know the product I'm buying is of the best quality in both form and functino. This Oxo potato masher is no exception.
Flawlessly crafted and finished, elegant in its simplicity and how it sturdily approaches its functionality, it feels good in the hand, does the job with less strain on the wrist than a vertical-handle masher, and it's built to last, with for example no rivets that attach the flat masher part like our last masher that is rusting out and loose and wobbly.
In other words structural integrity is part of the design, but it's also pleasing to look at.
Spend the few extra bucks.
It could easily last as long as you do, and become a valued addition to your kitchen tools along the way. And leave the products with names like Prenxla or Ticwdady for those who don't care to take enjoyment and pride in a device that looks good, and won't ever let you down.

Simply put this potato masher is awesome! The person I gifted this to couldn't stop raving about it! The person using it has an issue with grip strength, so a potato mashed with a traditional design is an effort in terrible frustration for them. The unique design for this product makes it so they can mash spuds better than they ever have. It's also OXO quality, extremely sturdy. I have no doubt someone will inherit this masher some day and it will be passed down in my family. Thank you OXO for thinking outside the box and making a design that can be used by everyone.
