I have been looking for this size scoop for the longest time. Perfect for making mini meatballs for my Escarole Soup. Saves time and makes the meatballs all uniform shape and size. I like that is stainless steel and is a NORPRO product like my other scoops which I have had for years. Very well made and nice weight. I have provided a picture of the product with this review. This stainless scoop is exactly what I was looking for to make filling muffin cups easier, cleaner and more accurate. It works beautifully as an ice cream/gelato/sherbet scoop and also as a large cookie scoop for all kinds of cookie doughs including macaroons. My Norpro cookie size scoop has been used heavily for about 3 years and I expect this one to be just as sturdy. So far, the size, quality, ergonomics, function and cleaning are all 5 stars.

Cleaning:
The stainless scoop cleans easily in the bottom utensil rack of the dishwasher. Just place it handle-side down and you'll have a nice, clean scoop. For stubborn stuck or dried-on dough, simply soak the scoop and then toss in the dishwasher.

Function:
This is a nice, smooth moving scoop with a spring that allows for easy dispensing of mixes. The 'scraper' does a great job of easily liberating dough from the scooper bowl. The scoop also handles ice cream beautifully, especially when warmed in a cup of hot water.

Ergonomics:
I have a rather small hand so it was important for the handle to be a reasonable size. The length of the handle is just right, the width of the 'arms' on the scoop are just right. The size of the grip and the tension of the spring keep hands from tiring during marathon baking sessions.

Quality:
Sturdy, thick stainless steel with strong, well-made hinges and a nice, strong spring. Norpro makes a scoop that lasts.

Size:
The size works for me. If you'll be using this to determine accurate cost measures for sales, of course you'll want to weigh a scoop of each product and proceed accordingly. I find it to be the most accurate method of portioning. The scoop provides a uniform portion every time.

In short, this is a great scoop for occasional or heavy use and you can't beat the price!

I'm a maniacal baker and I've purchased many different brand scoops. I keep coming back to the norpro brand scoops for the solid construction. With the cheaper brands, the sweeper mechanism always gets stuck or gets out of alignment if I challenge it with stiffer cookie dough. ETA: Regarding the review above claiming a "horribly" "flawed design": There is no design flaw, only an unrealistic expectation. No one should ever use any sweeper scoop to dish HARD ice cream, They're not engineered for that. If I need to dish HARD ice cream (I make my own and it rarely freezes to HARD), I use a  Zeroll Original 3-Ounce Aluminum Ice Cream Scoop  and would heartily recommend it.

I came to these Norpo scoops (I have three: a  Norpro 35 mm Stainless Steel Scoop  [one tablespoon], this one [three tablespoons] and a  Norpro 56mm Stainless Steel Scoop  [four tablespoons]) recently, in September, 2009, after a bad experience with the  Oxo Good Grips Trigger Ice Cream Scoop . I really like them. Very well made. Coming from the OXO it's sort of like the difference in closing a door on a Benz and a Ugo.

However, now I need to look for a TWO tablespoon scoop because this really (with all due deference to D. Evans) does hold three, and it's immaterial whether it's water or grains of salt, 2009 or any other year.

ETA: In looking for a real 2 tablespoon model online today, I came across a vendor who claims to have one that "holds PRECISELY 2 tablespoons of your favorite ice cream, cookie dough, melons, chicken or potato salad..." (Emphasis added.) Unfortunately, it's the same model as this one, a Norpro #678. So much for precision. I'm not having much luck finding what I need so, a shout-out to Norpro: Label this one correctly as a three tablespoon and make a real two tablespoon model.

ETA: I ordered the  Norpro 39mm Stainless Steel Scoop  and I'm making a guess it will hold two
tablespoons.

ETA: It doesn't. It holds almost, but not quite, two tablespoons.

ETA: I see Norpro took my suggestion (and the suggestion of others) and labeled this correctly now as three tablespoons.
