Seaside Christmas

A seaside Christmas is very relaxed and cozy. Time on the coast is slower and everything is a bit more rustic. I wanted to welcome you to our coastal home for the holidays.

We live right in Scituate Harbor, in an old home with blue shutters and cedar shingles. We all get involved in decorating for Christmas. If you follow me on Instagram, then you maybe saw this photo of my husband helping me hang garland.

 

I love using greenery fresh and faux on the outside of our home. The garlands, trees, and wreaths are faux but the swag on the sled is real. I’m also partial to decorating with vintage items. I think it adds warmth and character. The old galvanized bucket had ferns over the summer and now holds birch logs.

This sweet little sled is vintage, but I gave it a little DIY with paint and Saltwash. I’ll share more about this little project next week.

Amazing what some greenery and paint can do. 😉

Entry

This is the very spot I fell in LOVE with our home 5 1/2 years ago.

All that dark woodwork and the crystal door knobs. Sigh. You guys know what I’m talking about if you love old house charm.

I like to keep my decor very simple. I added a faux garland out here but used fresh eucalyptus from Trader Joe’s in the wire basket and tucked more into the garland.

I added some fairy lights and ribbon from Target.

I love how you can see the Christmas tree in our sunroom through the window 😉

You may see a couple of my favorite boots in these photos. My navy blue hunters for rain and my new Frye Chelsea boots in black. Both classics!!! The bench was just reupholstered for the holidays, you can see that here.

I added faux and real candles to the stairs as I thought it gave a magical affect. I’ve actually gone out and got more faux candles so I could line the stairs without worry of a fire.

Opposite this bench is a pretty marble topped dresser from the late 1800s.

The photo is of my son running on the beach when he was young and my mom painted the shell before she was married.

The old mirror used to hang in our family restaurant and it holds so many memories for me.

This is faux greenery and I love how it stays looking fresh all season 😉

If you look  closely, you’ll see me and my camera. I have to laugh because this is what I’ve looked like to my family for the last week and a half. Ha! Ha!

On that same wall on the other side of the doorway is this Jenny Lind bed that we upcycled to a bench.

I made the sunprints with our boys. It’s a fun spring / summer project. Click here to read about that project. The bean boot pillow is a watercolor from my Society6 shop.

Through the doorway is our living room.

Living Room

I’m not going to share too many photos of this space as I already shared our mantel, decorating our tree and other parts here.

We decorated the tree together and it was so special and magical.

John and Conor really love helping me.

Dining Room

I’ve already shared a glimpse of this room, as well, but I’m thinking of writing a more detailed post on the tablescape possibly next week.

I mixed antiques finds, faux greenery, and real eucalyptus and pomegranates. Would you guys like a more detailed post on this space?

The Welsh dresser an antique from England is decked out in fresh greenery, my collection of ironstone, and two cake stands I made. If you look closely you’ll see a pewter plate from our family restaurant, Baldwin’s, which was in Woburn, MA.

Sunroom

Here is our coastal sunroom. I LOVE spending time in this room as it has wonderful light, cool coastal breezes, and also a pretty amazing view of our new pool.

I filled the giant shell with ornaments and this was the tree you could see through the window in our front hall 😉

Oh, and look another favorite pair of boots. My aqua Uggs!!!

Oh, before we head upstairs, I wanted you to look outside to the She Shed.

Christmas Shed

I have big plans for the She Shed. In the spring it will become a coastal pool house. I ran out of time last summer.

As you can see the pool is closed up for winter, but I’ll be dreaming about lazy summer days by the pool soon.

To decorate the shed, I used faux greenery in the window boxes and a faux wreath on the door.

I wish I could take you inside because it’s really sweet in there BUT it has ALL our pool furniture. If you want to see what it looked like last year….

We had a hot chocolate bar out here with homemade marshmallows.

Well, it’s getting cold. Let’s head up to our cozy bedroom.

Master Bedroom

I wish someone told me before how cozy it is to have a Christmas tree in your bedroom. 🙂

Because it’s so magical. I now want to put a tree in our bedroom every year. I love to have the lights on and get cozy in our bedroom and read books.

I wanted to keep the decor on the tree very simple. It’s a pre-lit tree, but I added strands of pearls, anchors I glittered a few years ago, some deer from this tablescape, and even a little church tucked in.

I added strands of shell lights which I think add to the coastal magic 😉

The “tree skirt” is actually a duvet cover from Ikea…

Sadly this little snowman became a casualty. The snowman must have fallen while I was taking photos. Max, our little terrier, found him and tore him to shreds. Poor little snowman.

The boys and I made the snow globes that are on the dresser a few years back. It’s a fun (mess-free) craft you can do with your kids.

I kept things pretty simple on our bed. Just little fairy lights and ornaments.

There’s something magical about fairy lights and glass ornaments, don’t you think?
