If you really want to win just don't play

If you really want to win just don't play
This game is what is called a resource management game. You try and build a city that you are "Mayor" of using things that you either build or buy. While there are a few good aspects, the negatives outweigh the benefits. The first and most important thing to keep in mind is that this game is NOT free. Each task that you are required to do requires your money or your time, and there is no way around it. You want to build a building? Great! To build this hypothetical building requires 3 hamburgers and a cheesecake (yes, those are real things in this game). So how do you get those items? First of all you produce feed bags. Those bags require 7 hours to produce (real time), or you can spend $60 Simcash (more on that in a minute) per bag to speed up production. After you get those bags, then you use the bags to make your hamburgers. Each hamburger takes 3 feed bags and 2 hours to produce. Are you seeing how this works? So you get bored. You get inpatient. You just want to play the stupid game and not wait for days to accomplish something! HELLO WALLET!As far as money goes, they have 2 different types of money in the game, Simcash and Simoleans (see attached screen shots). Simcash is their resource that is harder to get. You can spend $100 ($99.99) and get $8500 Simcash. If you want to buy something called Maxis Manors (important to help you progress in the game) the first one is $1000 Simcash, second is $2000 Simcash, third is $4000 Simcash and fourth is $8000 Simcash. So think about that for a minute. You can buy a fake building in a virtual game that you will never get real life advantages from for almost $50! Your fourth one of those buildings cost you $100! Close to $200 for fake buildings! That doesn't include all if the other thinfs that you need Simcash for.But wait, (you wonder) can't you just earn Simcash in the game? Yes, you can. However, the only way to be able to earn large sums of Simcash is to participate in the Contest of Mayors. The CoM has different levels, and to be able to get the real Simcash you must work your way up to the "Megalopolis" level. This takes hours and hours of play every week for a MINIUM of 6 weeks. It is truely the most expensive game I have ever seen. If it is not taking your cash, it is taking your time.So why am I writing this long review? Because I was one of those people who spent hours playing this game. I did not invest money, I invested time. Hours that I will never get back. I realized just how stupid it was when I had an incident. I had saved a lot of Simcash, and one day it just disappeared. When I contacted EA (the makers of the game) they didn't care. It didn't matter that I had spent hours. It was just a stupid intangible game, and no one there cared. This is not real life. You get NOTHING tangible for your time and/or money. In a blink of an eye your virtual world can be gone. All that time, all that money for nothing. So, if you really want to win; don't play this game.It is just not worth it.

Game is fun to play. However, the constant freezing, erroring out, crashing, taking too long to load on the Kindle HD 8.9" makes it unplayable to be enjoyed. Have played SIM City games for decades and always enjoyed them.

This is a new twist on things that takes too many cues from the marketing and accounting folks who are determined to make the freemium model with an oppressed economy of scale work to maximize profits. Would gladly play for a game without the necessary requirement of advertising then rewarding you with a random item that shouldn't be worth your time. However, since it is setup to deadlock you into Facebooking (which many of us these days just don't do anymore) or forcing wait times of hours that turn into days to get items to advance; I quickly loose interest.

If I could link with my friends without using Facebook it would be more enjoyable because you could work together as a team to get the things needed to progress further. Something simple like e-mailing them a GUID code to invite them to link up is not hard to do. It is the allure that "if we force the users to go through Facebook we get more marketing dollars and have a better chance of gleaming money from them because they will feel peer pressure from their closest friends to continue to enjoy the game with each other." just irks me too much.

Games didn't always bring in the big money in the past and that was ok since the ones that did helped support the ones that did not bring in the big $$ to carry the company forward. Consider evaluating your position on long term playability vs. your profit goals EA. Lastly, toning down the extreme detail and graphical sprites to improve performance should be considered. There is no option to turn the settings down and that ultimately is what started my unenjoyment with your product. Someone surely said "let's make it so the game doesn't have to run on max settings" and someone who has no idea about processing power and graphics made the decision to discount this statement as being frivolous.

I agree with other posters that this game basically forces you into purchasing sim cash with real cash in order to get anywhere in the game. I would have much preferred purchasing the app out right over having to make multiple in game purchases. I was determined to NOT spend any real money on this app, but eventually caved in order to make some headways with my town as progress without paying for it would take FOREVER.

*WARNING* The simcash bundles are EXPENSIVE and you need to purchase a pretty sizable bundle in order to get enough simcash units to purchase enough simoleans (units actually used to buy most things in the game) to have any impact on your town funds as the smaller bundles provide you with barely enough units to do anything! The cheapest simcash bundle costs $4.99 (real money) and will get you 250 simcash units. The next bundle up is $9.99 (550 units) and the bundle after that is $19.99 (1300 units). From there the bundles are $34.99 (2625), $49.99 (4000), and $99.99 (8500)--but really, who is going to pay that?!

The problem lies with how the simcash bundle prices relate to the simolean bundle prices. The smallest simolean bundle only costs 30 simcash units, but will only get you $1800 simoleans-- not even enough to buy a water tower...or any services--so its pretty much pointless. The next cheapest bundle costs 300 simcash (for $19,200 simoleans), but, if you recall, the $4.99 bundle of simcash only gets you 250 simcash units. So you would need to purchase AT LEAST the $9.99 bundle if you want to have enough simcash to even THINK about being able to afford expanding your city, but at that point it would probably make more sense to just pay $19.99 for the simcash bundle of 1300 units to use to purchase the simolean bundle (costing 1000 simcash) to get $68,000 simoleans. UGH.

Aside from being a complete money pit, my biggest complaint about this APP would be how long it takes to produce necessary resources (ahem, NAILS.) In order to move the game along. Waiting for resources to generate in order to upgrade buildings really slows this game down once you've worked out the layout/infrastructure details of your city.

Speaking of infrastructure, as your city levels up, the sudden onslot of expanding needs/demands/new requirements of your citizens can be difficult to keep up with without monetary intervention. Suddenly having both health facilities and public transportation become unlocked AND a necessity for happy citizens in the SAME LEVEL felt like being set up for failure as my once happy citizens became increasingly dissatisfied and started abandoning homes when the golden key units needed to purchase such facilities were still out of my reach because I could not afford the shipping port--one of the only ways to obtain gold keys. Being forced into purchasing expensive services may be easier if one did not need to wait until a certain level/city size before said services are unlocked for purchase. It is A LOT harder to suddenly have to buy enough fire stations to protect an already established town (before everything starts to burn down) than it would be to add stations along the way as the town slowly grows from the first fledgling buildings to bigger neighborhoods.

As for things I love about this game: the artwork is beautiful, the animation details are great, the buildings/roads/services are fun and easy to work with, and I love that the progress can be saved--and played--across multiple devices and saved to the cloud. The speed up tokens are awesome (it would be so wonderful if there was a "pause" button option, though), and I love that buildings do not have construction timers slowing things down My favorite things are that generated resources do not "expire" or "go bad" if they are not gathered immediately (as they do in some other city builder games) and that taxes generated by your citizens when the game was closed or you were busy doing something else can still be collected at city hall instead of just being lost income.

5.0 out of 5 stars Construisez la ville de vos rêves sur votre smartphone
Reviewed in France on June 4, 2023

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST city building games out there!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 10, 2018
First of all, it's absolutely FREE!! For such a good game, with outstanding graphics, easy controls and informative tutorial, I would have expected it to cost at least £2. As there is only a short tutorial for each area, you can spend ages making your city how you like it. The pop-ups are useful, informative and aren't too intrusive. So far, I've had no glitches, even when offline. I've never lost progress or crashed, so I'm happy about that. In short, this is a great game, with good graphics, fantastic framerate and a good way to pass time. It's fun and addicting for all ages, but it takes time for your city to thrive. If I had to change anything, I think it should be easier to make simmillions, but apart from that, amazing game!!!! Would recommend!!!!!
