Today is the “International day of Forests”, and our Brazil President Ricardo Politi is in Peru for a technical visit at Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. He was invited by Grupo AJE to visit one of the communities that sustainably harvest wild Aguaje (“Buriti”) that is used to make their Bio Amayu juice. This Amazonian superfruit is known as the “tree of life” and its fruit is rich in vitamins and antioxidants. By strengthening a NTFP (“Non-timber forest product”) bioeconomy value chain that generates income to traditional communities, it creates economic incentives for forest conservation. We are commited to foster more corporate partnerships that creates economic alternatives that outperform the deforestation economy, ensuring that the trees are worth more alive and standing than cut and burned! ENGLISH: Today in Brazil is the “National Climate Change Awareness Day”, and we couldn't fail to highlight the vital importance of the Amazon rainforest for the stabilization of our planet's climate! The Amazon has a crucial role in carbon sequestration, water cycles regulation, and many other important ecosystem services. However, environmental degradation and deforestation pose serious risks to this precious ecosystem. It's essential to promote climate financing programs to protect the biome, with investments in conservation and restoration, as well as fostering economic alternatives that outperform the deforestation economy. These measures are fundamental and urgent to preserve and regenerate the region, as well as ensure a sustainable future for the planet and its people. This is our commitment everyday! During the past 10 days, AIC’s President in Brazil Ricardo Politi travelled to the Amazonian states of Amapá and Pará. The first stop was in Macapá, where he did a speech during the opening plenary of the first G20 engagement group related to Bioeconomy Startups (the “S20”). Following the event, he went deep into the forest for an immersion with a riverine extractivist community in the Iratapuru Reserve/RDS who runs Comaru, a Cooperative that collects Brazilian Nuts and supply its oils to the cosmetics company Natura, as well as a visit to Jari Foundation’s nursery of native species seedlings focused in reforestation projects. The last stop was in Belém, where he welcomed and onboarded our newest team member Yanê Amoras Lima (who will be based there), introducing her to a diverse range of relevant local actors and fellow AIC colleagues.

In Manaus, Mariana Sena and Lucas Reniêr from AIC Amazonas attended the II state-level Rubber tapper gathering, disussing ways to strengthen this sustainable extractivist value chain!
