That’s a wrap on #KubeCon 2023, and what a week it was! While last year felt like the conference was still getting back to form, this year was a complete return. Our own Alan Murphy shared his key takeaways from a busy week in Chicago. 1️⃣ KubeCon is broad, with focus In years past, KubeCon felt like a niche #kubernetes show. This year, it was more generally IT focused and covered the entire CNCF landscape. 2️⃣ OpenTelemetry is the hot topic for #observability #OpenTelemetry was on everyone’s minds throughout the Observability Track. The most common question: will #monitoring tools like Prometheus play nicely with #OTel? (Spoiler alert: Yes!) 3️⃣ AI Doesn’t Take Over (Yet) One surprise of the show was the lack of AI-washing in sessions and vendor messaging. Dealing with airlines' #TPF #legacysystems is a headache because of, among others, a need for qualified programmers. In the 1970s, TPF evolved from the 'Airlines Control Program' system. It was created by IBM and evolved to be used by #airlines and #GlobalDistributionSystems (#GDS), banking, and telecom. It's still used today because of its high-performance, transaction processing, and reliability. However, its flexibility for the modern requirements of airlines and travel tech (read GDS) giants is limited. Migrating TPF to modern platforms is complex. Only a few suppliers possess skilled TPF engineers and are experts in navigating these challenges. Suppliers who can ensure a smooth transition, without compromising performance and possess 40 years of expertise working with airlines and many other travel suppliers, are even rarer.
