Adar Poonawalla has joined a long list of frontline workers to receive the first few doses of the Serum Institute of India’s Covishield vaccine, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. He documented his experience on Instagram in a video post too. This post is being shared, widely, online, as a symbol of hope among netizens. It also furthers their support to this made in India vaccine.

Notably, Serum Institute of India (SII) is among the world’s leading manufacturers of vaccines. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Adar Poonawalla’s SII can produce about 1.5 billion doses of vaccinations against diseases such as measles and tuberculosis. In a recent interview with the media company, Adar Poonawalla also gave the American magazine a mini tour of his brand new office, that’s actually a refurbished plane. It is “kind of similar to Air Force One,” [an Air Force Once plane] he told the magazine.

Adar Poonawalla converted an Airbus A320 into a luxe office space – the remodelling cost of which set him back by about $1 million, he told Bloomberg Businessweek – that boasts the below four features.

  1. The refurbished plane houses a lounge, per Bloomberg Businessweek.
  2. Since it’s an office, of course it has a boardroom. One that’s designed to seat ten people, states Bloomberg Businessweek.
  3. It’s also remodelled the coach into a bedroom that could easily be found in a five-star hotel.
  4. The office can be ‘accessed through a luxe jetway with marble floors and carved wooden doors that’s connected to ground level by a dedicated elevator,’ writes the mag.

Earlier in an exclusive interview with GQ, Adar Poonawalla said, “It has my personal chambers, conference rooms, bathrooms – everything a private A320 would have. It’s permanently stationed in the new office campus I’ve just built. I can’t say I’m an aviation fan, but I do enjoy the comfort and convenience my jets provide, allowing me to avoid the chaos and delays at airports, especially given the amount of international travel I do.”
